I went to the dr. today to have my cat bite looked at and he recommened I take Lily to see a speech therapist. I was kinda suprised. I know shes hard to understand but I thought it was just because she's 3 1/2. He said its better to start earlier. Anyone know where to look? Is that something I could get through tricare?

Yes tricare covers it. Make an appt with her Dr and they will write a referral for a speech therapist. E had to see 1 for eating issues (speech therapist do speech and eating issues apparently) and it was covered. We went to a gal who worked at Lake forest. She was awesome. He only needed 2 appts because his eating improved 10 fold.

G'luck

I don't know how IL works but, here in CA if they are over three you have to go through the school system. Ds goes to a local elementary school once a week during the school year. Good Luck. I hope you have better luck than us. I first took in to see the navy speech pathologist and this was when he was two. She told me tricare more than likely wouldn't cover speech for him because he doesn't have any other condition. I so hope that is not true. He improved alot from being home and when he started preschool they reevaluated him and that is how he started through the system.

The dr said to check out the school and see but he said she needs to start something right away and its summer so I can't do anything through the school.

Tricare covers it. Breanna's dr. wanted her to go but it was when we were in Fl. and since we were going to be moving soon tricare wouldn't refer her until we got here. Her dr. here hasn't said she needs one so if they would refer I don't have any experience with the one(s) up here. Also, from what I heard of her talking I don't think she talks bad. I didn't hear her much but what I did hear I was able to understand her just fine. Good Luck. :)

Her pedi can send in a referral for speech therapy! Or something I didn't know till my son was in Kinder, at least in CA this holds true, that at age 3 you can have your child examined by the school and they can offer you the services you need too.

I would talk to her ped first. I thought she spoke pretty good. But see what her dr says they would know more about where other kids her age are at.

Yes, tricare does cover it. Noah has been in speech therapy and social therapy for 2 years now. The pediatrician has to put in a referral, and when it get approved, you are sent a letter on who the outside resources are for speech therapists.

I just asked for a referal from my daughters Ped a few weeks ago. I took her in to see a DR (Speech Pathologist) and he did refer her for some speech therapy. We will have a speech therapist come to our house once a week (done through the city of Norfolk, but paid for by Tricare). Tricare will cover everything.

Kahley gets tricare cover speech therapy with a speech pathologist. I take her twice a week and yes, they have to be evaluated by the school district if over the age of 3.

Yup, Noah was evaluated by the school district when he turned 3. We had a IEP meeting with Holly Ridge (speech therapy place) and Central Kitsap school district. He's in a special ed preschool through the district and he works with a speech therapist and social therapist. He will be continuing in the fall at a new elementary school that has the special ed preschool. I have been very impressed with the school district here and Holly Ridge. We got this nipped in the bud when he turned 2 and has been doing beautifully with it.
