Nick and I have heard a little about this and I was wondering if ya'll knew anymore. I've heard that after two years at a duty station you can possibly opt to have a 'split tour' or something like that and be moved to another duty station. :shrug I mean, I know it isn't a for sure thing but is it possible and has anyone else done it? The reason it is a consideration is because Nick has been told that he'll be in Norfolk for about 6 years (which I know can change) but we both would love to be stationed overseas while we are young. So...any answers? :)

That sounds cool, I would like that too, I don't know the answer, but I want to learn more about it also! Thanks for bringing it up!

I think that's right. I'm probably not the best person to respond because I'm not hugely experienced in all this but I remember my db saying something like that a few times, two years on the same boat and you can put in a transfer request I believe.

Wow, he got orders for 6 years at one duty station? That is definately a long time. Have him talk to his detailer or NC (Navy Counselor) about cutting his tour in half and being able to transfer elsewhere.

Please don't quote me on this but I believe that you would have to find someone at the spot you want to go to to switch with your husband's spot. Plus I don't think the military pays for the move, or they only pay a small portion.

We were looking into any possible way to get us out of Mississippi (we are here on 4 year orders) and we were basically told to suck it up and deal.

If you find more info or a way to do it, please pass it on to me!

We're planning on doing this, since DH's ship is replacing the Kitty Hawk in 2008. Word on the street is that it won't be a big deal (for us) because they'd rather let him finish his tour on another ship, rather than paying to move us to Japan for only a year. I guess a lot of guys are going to do it. Either way, I'm pushing him to get the ball rolling now so that it's done, over with, and approved, before all these slackers try to squeeze through at the last minute and end up getting denied.
