My husband and I are trying to have a baby. One of my concers is that I live away from Portsmouth, and DOWN THE STREET from Langley Airforce BASE, which I'm "Pretty sure" has a hospital, it looked like a hospital anyway. IF it is a hospital can I use that one instead of the Navy hospital in portsmouth? My husband's navy and this would be more convenient, but I know the navy doesn't care about the convenience of things. Does it matter since it's a military hospital, or do I have to use the navy hospital since my husband's navy.TIA:D

I'm not sure, but I would think that either would be fine. Don't take my word for it though

Unless they have changed things in the last month, they will send you to Langley. I had my son there before we moved to SC. It is a pretty nice hospital. They don't want you to have to worry about driving through the tunnel while in labor. They might also send you to a doctor on the outside. Langely will only accept so many del. per month.

They gave me the option of Balboa (Navy base) or Miramar (Marine base) here in San Diego. I think it depends on how full they are. We are having a homecoming baby and that means that they are busy here! :giggle

I am in the same boat that ya'll are in. We live in Hampton, and when I got preggie they ended up sending me to Langley. I am 18 weeks along and so far Langley has been awesome!

I had Gabe at Langley as well. I had problems with them. But I was high risk and they wouldnt transfer me. said they could deal with it. but when Gabe was born at 36 wks and had breathing problems they couldnt deal with it. that is one thing that you have to consider, Langley doesnt have a NICU. If I had a "normal" pregnancy, i would have had no problems there!!

The tunnel is the only thing that had me concerned because I know that ANY hospital will have pros and cons! The tunnel is not terrible, but it would be if I was in labor and I would have to drive through it! I would fear it the whole time.lol.

Just to confirm what has already been said...we are Navy and live in Newport News. Both of my babies were born at Langley. As long as there are openings for dependants they will take you there.

I had to go to the AirForce hospital in Mississippi and I loved it. The doctor that I saw all the time was great.
