I dunno if anyone would know but...

Since having Ethan I been getting migranes. I mean really really bad migranes. I have never had them before. While in labor I had 3 epidurals. None of which worked. So when I had to have my emergency C-section I was knocked out under general. I have read that in a small percentage of women the epidural can cause migranes later on down the road. So my question is...Since I had so many epidruals. None of which worked. Could I been in this small percentage that is getting such bad migranes? I mean I can barely function when I get them. Luckily each time has been with Rod home so he can help me. But I am talking it makes me vomit, can't hardly see, my head feels like it is gonna fall off. The first time I had 1 Rod called the ER and they said it was odd for a woman at 30 to just "develop" migranes...

I would go have that checked with your doctor!! My mom has really bad migranes, but they weren't from having her kids. Never heard of the epidural migrane connection, but I would see the doc!!

i get them now too..... i had an epidural with Savannah and spinal blocks with the boys. my PCM told me that i am more than likely getting them from those. go and see your PCM. i have meds now that stop them as soon as they start. i dont know what i would do without it. mine were as bad as you are getting.

i think it's very possible.. the migranes that are caused by the epidurals are because the spinal fluid has been disturbed.

Are you sure you didn't get a spinal block with the emergency c-section? I know those cause intense migraines. You should go to your doc and ask questions because you can get some meds that will help you keep one at bay so you can function at least. I feel for you because nothing is worse than a migraine... *hugs* to you

Yep no spinal block. After 3 failed epi's I was knocked out with general anesthia. They decided no time and to not risk it since I had so many failed epi's. The pitocin was making my contraction about a minute apart, no pain management and I had already pushed for almost 2 hours and tore etc. My pelvic bone was just a bit narrow and he was large for me I guess. So they apparently figured knocking me out totally was best.

I've been getting them a lot since having my spinal block with Shelby. I would think your headaches are probably from the epi and not the general since the general is just through an IV, right? The epi's and spinal blocks mess with the fluids and nerves in your spine, which definitely CAN cause long term effects, such as the migraines. I never got bad headaches until after I had Shelby. Now, I get them ALL the time. I get a BAD one at least once a week and take tylenol for them at least 2-3 times a week. I bet I can count on one hand how many headaches I've had in my LIFE before Shelby. Now, it's every other day or every two days. Last night I had one so bad that I was sitting by the toilet waiting to throw up. They hurt my eyes and make me feel really sick to my stomach :( So, I feel your pain. I do think your headaches are probably more related to the epi's though.

Yeah I am pretty sure it isnt from the general. Honestly I dont know how they put me under as I was out of it. When I had my nasal surgery I was inabated thru a tube down my throat and knocked out that way with a drug given via IV first. This time I would assume they used a mask since they didnt have to do anything to my nose etc.

I had been reading up on epi's and long term side effects and I guess I am a statistic both ways. Not only with it not working but with the migranes..Tylenol, motrin etc does NOTHING. And they get so bad I can barely do anything but throw up. I have never had migranes before. Only sinus headaches from my allergies which were not bad and didn;t render me helpless or make me vomit.

Oh well. Guess I better make an appt or do something. I cannot keep this up.

Well I guess it isn;t such a silly question after all :blush I emailed my Dr who told me I needed to come in asap to be evaluted and given "proper medication" and possibly a refer to the headache specialist on base...So I have an appointment this Saturday! Thanks ya'll! I am excited at the idea of being able to do SOMETHING about these nasty things!

i'm glad they are going to do something for your migraines! one reason i didn't want an epidural with hayden... i get migraines like yours and don't need anymore help. actually they haven't been as bad lately which is weird since i had a spinal with madison. for me they have gotten less severe for the most part but i can't find out what triggers them so all i can do is take daily medication to prevent them and zomig for when i do get them (which i haven't taken lately because of pregnancy and breastfeeding). wish these tards here would send me to a headache specialist. it's near impossible to take care of a kid (let alone two) with migraines.

my mom though didn't start getting migraines until she was 40 or so. i started at 15 so it does happen sometimes in older women too. i wouldn't wish migraines like that on anyone so i really hope they can help you.

Wow, I never even knew that those things can cause migraines. I know from about the time that I was 16 until about the time I was 25 or so, I got the most horrific migraine headaches. I hardly EVER get one now and I just assumed it was a hormonal thing to do with the early 20's! Maybe I am a good sign that they don't last forever (if they are casued by spinal/epis) in that case. I had my second son at age 21 and by 25 my headaches were pretty much gone.

I am so thankful to be free of them, since there were days I could barely function also:inshock

most women who get them, get them during their most fertile years and they usually get less severe or go away as women get older. of course then there are the exceptions! not sure if they do go away if they are caused by epi's.

I got my first 2 migranes after I had Taylor. I had never had one, so I thought I was dying. :lmao My doc told me it was normal since my hormones were going back to normal.

I haven't had one since she was around 4 months old...but I do get regular headaches pretty easily.

Hopefully your doctor can get something figured out for you. Being in bed with a migrane is the worst! :hugs
