Has anyone ever had or used one of these? I saw it in the store and it's a thing to hear your baby's heartbeat at home. I was wondering if anyone has ever used one and if they actually work.

Yes I have one, it's a little pricey thou, l paid like $300 for it but worth every penny, it always gave me a peace of mind to hear my little baby's heartbeat any time I wanted to.

I have the BebeSounds prenatal heart listener. It is 3 years old so the new version may work better, but I could never really hear anything with this one. I just tried it out to see if I could hear my little guy right now but I couldn't tell if I was just hearing my own noises or his. It is so hard to know what to listen for :thinking. I've heard that storkradio.com is a pretty good place to rent one from if you don't want to buy one, but there are many places to choose from if you do a search for doppler rentals.

The ones in the store that you find for like 20-30 bucks are usually an enhanced stethescope. These are good for hearing things in your 3rd trimester. The actual doppler that allows you to hear your baby sheartbeat early on are very pricey. You can rent em but most places require a Dr's prescription for them now. The FDA has started to regulate them so most places will contact your Dr for an ok. (I had one with my son and returned it and am kicking myself now for returning it and not just paying the 400 bucks for it)

G'luck!

Nope. A friend of ours rented one a while ago from http://www.storkradio.com/index.php and I just borrowed hers here and there. But man was it awesome!!!! If you can spare the money to rent or purchase then go for it. They are just like the ones your Dr uses at your appointments.

Once you have completed your rental/purchase you will be asked to provide the name and fax number of your caregiver. We will obtain the authorization for you and will not solicit your caregiver for any other purpose. If you already have a prescription for your doppler, fax it to 617-507-6448. Remember, we will only rent or sell dopplers to people who have started prenatal care. We will not charge your account until we receive your prescription.
This states you need a Dr's note to rent/purchase one. Kristi is right. You can only get one if your Dr. okays it.

I did heartbeatsathome and you do need a Dr's note from there now. This is from their FAQ

The US FDA requires expecting mothers to gain the approval of their physicians for the use of ultrasound dopplers at home. We realize your day is already busy enough and we want to make this process as fast and easy as possible for you. Immediately upon receiving your order, we will proactively fill out and fax the Physician Approval Form to your licensed Caregiver (he/she will not be contacted for any other purpose). We typically receive signed Approval Forms within a few hours. If you choose to do this in advance of placing your order, please print & have your licensed Caregiver sign the Physician Approval form (Simply click on the image below) or have them fax us their own prescription form. Once we receive the signed document at our office, we can immediately release your shipment. This policy helps keep you, your physician and Heartbeats At Home in compliance with FDA regulations and fully explains why the care-giver information is required.

I am telling ya the FDA did start regulating them. I have found only 2 sites that dont require it YET. ;)

Yeah they did. I been reading up on it and there are various reasons. A part of me wonders if maybe Tom Cruise buying an actual ultrasound machine didnt spark it tho. Because the FDA HAS warned of over use of ultrasounds and that they shouldnt be used for hours and hours etc etc. So maybe they regulated u/s machines and had to do dopplers too because it uses ultrasound waves..

I know it stinks. I wanted one real bad. I did find 2 sites that dont require it but a big part of me is like "well they regulated it for a reason" KWIM? So I havent
