Okay, I have some questions. DHs boat is scheduled to go to NH in January for decom. Originally, it was supposed to take 12-18 months so all the families were going to be able to go with them. Now they are saying it's only slated 6-9 months (although we all know thats probably not accurate). With it being only 6-9 the Navy will not move any families. Now, on to my question...does that mean that we cannot occupy housing up there? Will we get NH BAH since that is where he is? We're okay with moving ourselves but we would never survive up there on Norfolk BAH.

Decomming doesn't necessarily take as long as their projected time frame... The detailers should be visiting your husband's command within a month or so of decomming, to cut him new orders. (they didn't with DH's last ship, they waited till about 3weeks before, which left guys in the lurch with trying to transfer and deal with moving families, in the peak of PCS season!) Some of the families may not go even if they Navy will move them if they're only saying 6-9 months... I'd call the NH housing office and get some straight answers from them. They should be having a decom briefing for the guys/families too, which should answer some questions.. make a list of all your concerns and ???s and take it with you to the briefing.. if y'all have one.
