View Full Version : Recruiting Duty??? I_Love_my_marine 07-21-2006, 12:06 PM Is there anyone else who is on recruiting duty right now? I hate it because the hours are so long! I was just wondering if there were any more! Thanks!:hairout Krisha 07-21-2006, 12:35 PM My dh is nearing the end of his recruiting tour. NavyChiefs_Wife 07-21-2006, 12:53 PM No, but my husband did it for three years(that's how we met). He hated it and I didn't like it either. The hours were so long and we could never plan anything hardly because he was always late. April 07-21-2006, 01:21 PM We met when he was on recruiting duty and we LOVED it. In fact, we loved it so much he is putting in his CRF package right now. There were some long days but it was nice that he would call and say "hey, how about lunch and a movie today" and then he might miss dinner or he might have to go back out again after dinner but I loved that it was sooooo flexible. Also, we could take trips and it never counted against his leave. We wont know if he made it for another month. I've got everything crossed that I can :lol froglove 07-21-2006, 01:24 PM Well dh will be putting in his packet for it in December... hoping that we will like it. We will be doing it in Nebraska... so we shall see! April 07-21-2006, 01:26 PM Well dh will be putting in his packet for it in December... hoping that we will like it. Veronica 07-21-2006, 01:33 PM what has to happen for recruiting duty? is there a website or something I can look at. My dh is 'interested' in it (a little) and I'd like to explore all of our 'options' before we make a decision for orders. TIA! froglove 07-21-2006, 01:34 PM is he just going to do a tour or is he changing rates? im not sure..... Is there a difference... I dont think he willbe changing rates. :dunno he never tells me stuff.. all I heard is that he will work long hours and what not... but its not any different now.. I dont think he willbe changing rates. :dunno he never tells me stuff.. all I heard is that he will work long hours and what not... but its not any different now.. yes, you can put in a package for just a 3 year tour and then go back to his "real" job. my dh already did that. OR you can change rates so that he will ALWAYS recruit. which is what we are doing now. But I think you have to do a 3 year tour before you can change rates to it :puzz You can make recruiting fit your lifestyle. Most of the time dh didnt go to work until 10am and was home by 4pm. The last week of the month is always hard if they dont make goal. I love the options it gave us. And they still have things like the Navy ball but its an award ceremony too. If he is good at recruiting it will be a piece of cake. If he is not so good at selling people, or is in a crappy station, it is much more difficult. TIA! http://www.cnrc.navy.mil/ thats their website dh's station won the right to go to Indy 500 and they were in the pit crew, got to meet the CNO and lots of other people like Nadia and David Hasselhoff. Recruiting was like a 3 year never ending party :nutts :teehee mikeswife 07-21-2006, 02:36 PM yes, you can put in a package for just a 3 year tour and then go back to his "real" job. my dh already did that. Just wondering because it is not like that any more. At least not here in this district. My dh goes in at 9 and gets home between 7 and 8. On Mondays they work later. Also at least two Saturdays a month. And Sundays if they have someone shipping on Monday. It is a lot more dificult now with the was. But I do agree that is what you make it. I use the Saturdays that he works to do the cleaning and shopping. I also get to yard sale which he hates. Also he has been able to be there for all the important ob appointments. Which I know would not be the case on sea duty and some regular shore duty. It is long hours some times and stressful on the guys when they are having a hard time making goal. But there are some good things. April 07-21-2006, 02:37 PM When did your dh do recruiting? We left recruiting duty in 2001. Not that long ago. froglove 07-21-2006, 02:47 PM dh is going to be doing 3 year tour... then somewhere else after that back in his normal job. Im sure he will be good at it..Maybe this job will actually keep him busy! right now as a first class and a lpo all he really does is sit around anymore and he hates that. is there any schooling he has to go to? Where is it? How long? Can we go with him? April 07-21-2006, 02:48 PM there is a 6 week school in pensacola :D you could probably go but his school was befoe we met so I'm not exactly sure. mikeswife 07-21-2006, 02:51 PM dh is going to be doing 3 year tour... then somewhere else after that back in his normal job. Where is it? How long? Can we go with him? DH went to school in Pensacola. He was in a hotel and I was able to be there with him. I took him to the school house on base and was about to have the car. There was not ,uch to do at that time because one of the hurricanes had just been through there. A lot of things were shut down. I spent a lot of time at the library. It is long hours some times and stressful on the guys when they are having a hard time making goal. But there are some good things. It all depends on your station. My dh hardly EVER works past 6 and has only worked a handful of Sat's in Two plus years. If you're in a good area your job is easier. Dh has no trouble making goal therefore his hours are what he wants them to be. Krisha 07-21-2006, 03:08 PM Each time dh went to school the kids and I moved to our new duty station and then he followed once school was done. Brooke 07-21-2006, 03:18 PM My hubby wanted and maybe still wants to do recruiting. Krisha 07-21-2006, 03:20 PM It fairly simple to get recruiting duty. They just submit a package, go in front of some board, have a few backgrounds checks and a credit check run and you're in. Dh has done it twice and will not do it again. Not because of the duty but because for him to advance in rank he needs to be on a ship. I_Love_my_marine 07-21-2006, 04:46 PM Maybe because your hubbys are Navy it is a little different. Around the end of November till about April My hubby did not get one day off. NOT even the weekends. I absolutly hate it! HE hates it to. He wants to go back into the fleet. We still get our Marine Corps Ball in fact this year we are going to the casinos in Shreveport but it still just sucks. My hubby is great at doing it he ranks like 2 or 3 in the list for Recruiter of the Year. His station wins all sorts of awards, But the command hates this station because it is far and the recruuiters are all kinda rebels and do their own thing but it works because they always make mission. I hate when our daughter always asks- mom why does daddy live at work? or Daddy cant you stay home with me today? it is just bothersome. I think I will be so much happier when we get back to the fleet, Yeah deployments suck but my husband will be happier....... Krisha 07-21-2006, 05:47 PM Sonia you are right it depends on the branch. The Army and Marines come in long before my dh and leave long after. They also work pretty much 7 days a week. SubmarineWife 07-21-2006, 06:58 PM My dh goes in at 9 and gets home between 7 and 8. On Mondays they work later. Also at least two Saturdays a month. And Sundays if they have someone shipping on Monday. Those hours seem like a piece of cake to me.......i'd love my dh's to work those hours. Aymber 07-21-2006, 10:25 PM We are recruiting in Raleigh.Don't know much about it though, just started. We didn't have a choice though. We were involunintarily sent. deewix 07-21-2006, 11:57 PM We are on our second round of Recruiting Duty. Thankfully this time around has been great so far. If you make Recruiting Duty out to be something horrible and awful then it will be.........have to find that little light at the end of tunnel and look toward it. I_Love_my_marine 07-23-2006, 12:41 PM I was all excited whe we moved back to Texas. I am from Texas. My family lives in Houston and we are three hours away instead of 24 so that was suppose to be great. But the hours are what kills me, and the fact that his "boss" hardly comes to work and gambles all the time and the recruiters have to pull his weight. I guess unless you are in my shoes you will never really know how I feel. April 08-07-2006, 10:23 AM :bump |
