View Full Version : Breastfeeding in Public amandalaine 07-21-2006, 09:24 PM Do/Did you do it? CoffeeGirl 07-21-2006, 09:35 PM I did do it but I was always VERY covered & VERY discreet! Joy 07-21-2006, 09:39 PM Yes, with something over the baby and my breast. Usually a thin baby blanket. Enough to be modest but not too much to overheat the baby. I've been breastfeeding and walking at the mall and DH didn't even have a clue what I was doing. :heehee I guess you just learn to be discreet. :D RockstarMom 07-21-2006, 09:53 PM Yes, and pretty descreetly. As Joy said, enough to not overheat the baby. ;) sunshyne 07-21-2006, 09:56 PM I didn't really go that many places when I was b/f my kiddos. If we did go somewhere I would do it in the car, or if we at someones home, I would use a bedroom. I just felt uncomortable in front of people. I have no problem with others doing it where ever they need to though! *Dawn* 07-21-2006, 10:09 PM I always did just like everone else. MontanaSweetie 07-21-2006, 10:35 PM No, I did not do it. MW5M 07-21-2006, 10:37 PM Yes, and pretty descreetly. As Joy said, enough to not overheat the baby. ;) :agree KY just passed a state law, where NO ONE can prohibit you from BF in their business or establishment, public place etc. :thumbsup :thumbsup caligirlnjapan 07-21-2006, 10:51 PM I did, for the short while I breastfed...always covered up though! RockstarMom 07-21-2006, 10:58 PM :agree KY just passed a state law, where NO ONE can prohibit you from BF in their business or establishment, public place etc. :thumbsup :thumbsup A lot of states have that! I believe CA does. PA needs to. IL also does. You can actually look them up at http://www.lalecheleague.org/ I think? Veronica 07-21-2006, 11:05 PM I did and still do, although its harder to be discreet now that she is old enough to grab the blanket or my shirt and everyone knows what I'm doing! Debra 07-21-2006, 11:21 PM When I was nursing I did NIP. Ste9 07-22-2006, 01:14 AM I always nursed wherever baby was hungry. I wore nursing shirts the majority of the time and they make nursing very discreet. Kaymara 07-22-2006, 06:46 AM Yes. When I nursed and if he was hungry I fed him. I was discreet and didn't flash everyone etc. He and I were covered up and sometimes, if we were in a resturant, I would go out to our vehicle. But if your baby is hungry, your baby is hungry and needs to eat! Teresa 07-22-2006, 10:04 AM I only nursed in public if there was a mother's room. Even then, I was very shy about doing it and ended up only nursing for 2 months because of it. With this baby, I have so much more support and know a little more about what to expect so I will try to nurse him whenever and wherever he decides he needs it! BLBnJVB3 07-22-2006, 10:05 AM I did when I breastfed. I didn't that often but there were times when we were out and I would need to. I was always covered so nobody could see anything. Someone might have known what I was doing but they couldn't see anything. Amber V 07-22-2006, 10:29 AM I do breastfeed where ever my kids need me to and I do it discreetly. Lindsey 07-22-2006, 11:50 AM There's always a blanket covering but yeah I BFed when and where my baby needed to mara_jade81 07-22-2006, 03:57 PM Yes I did/do, not as much with Hayden though because he is a looky loo and won't stay latched on if there is anything going on. He won't stand for a blanket over him either. Madison was much easier, didn't like the blanket but I always wore big shirts that covered everything. She at least would stay latched even if a marching band was going by. navycorpsmanwife 07-22-2006, 07:31 PM Only when ABSOLUTELY necessary and I was very discreet about it. You have to weigh the question - Which causes more of a scence a screaming infant or me trying to discreetly breastfeed to quiet the screaming infant? RockstarMom 07-22-2006, 08:02 PM You have to weigh the question - Which causes more of a scence a screaming infant or me trying to discreetly breastfeed to quiet the screaming infant? :yes Heather 07-22-2006, 08:31 PM I sure did. It no different than a mom giving a bottle. When a baby is hungry they are hungry Traci 07-23-2006, 02:01 AM I tried to do it but had problems so it did not work. But as long as a woman covers herself I have no problem with it. I encourage more women to do it. Scarlett 07-23-2006, 08:06 AM yep. after nursing each of my boys on seperate cross country car trips ( we always end up having a baby a few weeks before we would PCS) I have nursed about everywhere....Pizza hut, Wal- mart, Truck stop restaurants, Taco bell, Mc Donalds, in the car (lean over the carseat) ...........and the list goes on..... CMPCAP 07-24-2006, 01:08 AM Yep, I NIP and would not cover her with a blanket (she hated something covering her). I swear someone could come up and talk to me and still not realize I was nursing my daughter. My thought was my daughter is hungry and I am not going to not nurse her because someone else has a problem with it. When she was hungry I fed her no matter where we were. Debra 07-24-2006, 02:34 AM My thought was my daughter is hungry and I am not going to not nurse her because someone else has a problem with it. When she was hungry I fed her no matter where we were. :thumbsup It wasn't asked in this thread but I also think it is absolutely disgusting when a nursing momma is told to take it to a bathroom. You would never tell a bottlefeeding mom to do so. And I myself would never eat in a bathroom. Why should a nursing mom? Brooke 07-24-2006, 02:38 AM Heck yeah, I say if baby's hungry, he's hungry! One time I was walking to the bathroom and this woman shoved me because there was a line and I was walkin inside to feed DS. Me and my sister were both going off on her! It was hilarious! Oh, and DS was crying the whole time because he was starving! Brooke 07-24-2006, 02:38 AM :thumbsup It wasn't asked in this thread but I also think it is absolutely disgusting when a nursing momma is told to take it to a bathroom. No problems at all. Jill 07-24-2006, 11:35 AM I still NIP with Trent. i will do it anywhere. i have no shame!!! :lol airplanes, resturants, bookstores, in front of family, at the zoo, even while swimming!! i dont cover up because i dont feel i have too. trent is pretty good about staying on. of course there are times when i have flashed people but hey who has not seen a boob before!:dunno i just cover my boob real quick and move on. |
