ok, im sooo new at this!! It looks like we'll be moving to San Diego.. here's the thing..Josh is graduating a school feb 5...in march fmss starts... after that, we're off to san diego..BUT he was told that since he will go to san diego that they will send him there for fmss also..so...fmss is 7 weeks..they recommend no family but can we go ahead and apply for housing there since that will be where he stays or do we have to wait.. I currently live in north carolina...if i could move there with the kids when he goes even for fmss it would make it alot easier.. is there a waiting list in san diego? also, we just got married 9 days ago and i need to know if i have to do anything for tricare or anything.. thanks guys!!

you have to actually go into the office to apply for housing there. but if you stay put while he is in school, they will back date the application when he gets there to the day he leaves the school he is at. most of the housing areas have a waiting list. but they are doing a thing now, where you can take a house right away and be on the wait list for the one you want.

The waiting list here, The Village at NTC, is 1-3 months. I really like it here. We have a preschool on site, a pool, spa, gym, and they have mom and me classes during the week. They also have a mom's craft class once a week as well.
I do not know what fmss is so I'm no help there.
His control date for housing will be the date he checked into his command here in San Diego. He has to apply within 30 days of arriving or his control date will be the date he applies.

If his permanent orders state San Diego, then I don't see any reason they wouldn't let you come. Dh was TAD to San Diego, he went to SWCC training, and the navy still moved us here. If you can't get housing right away you can look into renting something month to month, find a cheap hotel. We rented the first two years we were here. I'm sure there are some housing available now. It just all depends what you want and how far you want to live. Here are some links to help you.

Sometime, even if there is a waiting list you still might get in unit right away. When I got on the list for here the wait was 6 months. They called me the day after I got on the list and offered us a place. Of course we couldn't take it because we had a lease. You never know if the people ahead of you on the list have leases or not, or their SO is deployed and they wont move till their back. There are alot of new housings here, NTC, Serra Mesa, and Gateway. They all come with washers and dyers and central air.

If you have a pet you'll want Murphy Canyon it's one of the only places that allows pets bc you have your own personal backyard...there is a waiting list for MC but I am not sure how long.

MC's waiting list depends on how many bedrooms you need. It usually isn't too bad.
