View Full Version : How you feed your baby Jill 12-02-2005, 10:57 AM so i have notice that some moms FF, BF or both. i was just wondering who did what and why you chose that? Kaymara 12-02-2005, 11:00 AM I breastfed in the beginning. Is all I wanted to do. Due to a low milk supply (which was verified by a lactaition consultant etc) I had to supplement formula. Well Ethan HATED bottles, HATED formula and ONLY wanted me. And unfortuantly I couldn't give that to him. I tried everything. After 4 and a half months of feeding every hour, pumping when he wasnt feeding, taking fenugreek, eating oatmeal, drinking tons of water etc. I took him in for an appointment and he had NOT gained the amount of weight they wanted for 2 months time. So his ped said in this case since he would not take the supplements of formula that I should wean him so he'd gain weight. Thru many tears I did. At 4 and a half months he was fully weaned, taking formula and gaining weight perfectly. edited cuz I voted both since Ethan did have breatmilk for 4 and a half months Mandi 12-02-2005, 11:04 AM I started out bf, but my milk supply was too low. I bf/ff for the 1st month, and then Lances doctor recommended ff only. Because he was getting more from the formula than from me. I went to a Lactation Nurse, and she seconded the dr opinion. It what was best for Lance, and that is what is most important! Jill 12-02-2005, 11:06 AM i guess i should post my answer!!! LOL when trent was born i had flat nipples. nothing else to it. his tiny little mouth did not have enought suction to pull them out. so for 2 1/2 months i pumped non-stop. i wanted him to have BM(breastmilk....not bowel movement!!!:hehe ) after months of pumping they finally came out and now trent is EBF with the exception of a few nights when daddy will bottle fed with BM. Rach 12-02-2005, 11:33 AM I'm going to TRY to breastfeed...but if not than formula. If I'm able to breastfeed or all goes well, than I'll only do it up to 6 months. Angie 12-02-2005, 11:38 AM I breastfeed my son for 7mths then he went to formula. With my daughter I only breastfeed because she wouldn't take a bottle for nothing. I brestfeed her for a little over a year. Brandi 12-02-2005, 11:59 AM I breastfed both kids in the beginning. I only breastfed Jaxon for a few weeks b/c he was really colicky and I found that the formula actually helped with the crying and fussiness to an extent. I breastfed Shelby for the first month or so, then switched over to formula for own personal reasons. I never had an issue with supply. It was actually quite the opposite. I was SOOOOOO engorged and in pain, I was having to pump in between feedings or I was soaking through about 30 breast pads a day. Not fun. So, both in the beginning for both kids, then formula after that. :D mara_jade81 12-02-2005, 01:08 PM boobie milk. i just never thought of not breastfeeding since everyone in my family has. just seemed like the natural thing to do. IgglesmumX2 12-02-2005, 02:01 PM Both of my kids have been formula fed other than the first week with MacKray and the first 24 hours with Bradley. I was molested as a child and still have a hard time with it sometimes and was unable to see BFing as anyting other than an un-natural act. This is just how it was for me..I know in my brain BFing is the most natural thing there is but physically it wasn't comfortable for me. Nickschic 12-02-2005, 03:51 PM I formula feed. I started out trying to BF but I couldnt get the hang of it it made me feel very bad that I was having problems with it and it hurt everytime even when she was lached on correctly and I was getting very depressed and felt I was a bad mommy cause I couldnt do it right also because my mother put alot of pressure on me to do it because she did with all three of us and I was afraid to disappiont her then DH and I talked about it and he told me that it's my baby and my body and If I didnt want to I didnt have too so I switch to bpttles a few weeks later DH told me that he was glad I did taht cause he really liked the bonding he can do with her while feeding with my next kid I plan on trying it again but next time do more reading and take a BF class so maybe I can do it BTW I also had alot of pressure from my mom about not have an epi durindelvery because my sister didnt when she had both of hers but DH told her I did then chewed her out a little when she disapproved Sarah 12-02-2005, 04:31 PM I did both. I tried to BF, but I had too much "boobie" for Emily, and she was being smoothered. So, she was formula fed. Then I had a breast reduction. When I had Noah, I had better luck, but I wasn't producing enough, due to the breast reduction, so I switched to formula. Jodi 12-02-2005, 07:09 PM I only formula fed both kids. I just didn't have any interest in breast feeding. Frankie Lee 12-03-2005, 01:22 PM Breastfed all of my babies as long as I could and then formula fed....so both!! MW5M 12-03-2005, 03:10 PM BF all of mine. One took formula after about 6 mo though. Caimbrie 12-03-2005, 07:55 PM I formula fed both of mine and will probably do the same for this baby. I wanted to BF my first but my ex wasn't very supportive.. I wanted to BF my second but all my husband did was talk about how his ex BF his daughter and how great it was ect..... so I was so turned off to doing it because I fealt like I would be doing it to live up to his ex.. I am considering it for this baby because of money.. but with having 2 other little ones I think I may formula feed this time as well. Lilithdrff 12-04-2005, 12:39 PM With Kat I tried breastfeeding only, but when I went back to work, my milk supply dropped and I had to supplement with formula. I did both for 7 months, then moved her to formula and solids until 1 year. With Cadence I'm breastfeeding only, I'm making more milk than she needs (probably since I'm not working and I can be here whenever she wants it). It's working out great :) MichelleB 12-05-2005, 09:34 AM I tried to breastfeed Taylor, but she just wasn't having it. She was such a lazy baby! When I could finally get her to latch on, she didn't want to suck to actually make the milk come out. So we tried and tried for several weeks, then through many tears one night I gave up and switched to a bottle. Even after switching to the bottle, I had to change the nipple to medium flow before she was 2 months old because she too lazy to even suck on the bottle. Scarlett 12-05-2005, 04:50 PM breastfed both boys, drew weaned at 14 mos and alex is 10 mos and still going strong.... stacy 12-05-2005, 05:05 PM I breastfed Sarah for 11 months and she weaned herself and went straight onto a sippy cup with whole milk. I plan to bf this one too :). Sarah was never good with bottles even for juice and such so I guess I was lucky I was able to bf because she would have been a pain to switch over. Fez's_Wife 12-06-2005, 06:06 AM Isabelle was about a month early and did NOT want to latch we tried a nipple sheild and after two days of hand expressing colostrum and crying every time I did cuz it hurt like a mother the nurse came and gave me a bottle.... I felt like the worst person in the world but...Chris was getting ready to leave and baby blues were awful. I'm glad I switched to formula its enabled me to take the meds I need to be a good mommy and I know I would be frustrated and upset if I were still breast feeding. I didnt really have baby love till about a month ago because of ppd...so Formula Michelle 12-09-2005, 07:44 PM I breastfed both of my girls for a year. I chose to breastfeed b/c it's healthiest for the baby. It's also cheaper than formula and a great way to bond with baby. I loved it. |
