I've got a question. My fiance told me that the Montgomery GI Bill is for service people getting higher education. He also told me that spouses can use it as well. Is this true? Would I be able to use it for graduate work?

Spouses can not use it. It has been discussed and nothing has come of it as far as I know.
Yes the GI Bill is for the active duty member to go to college

Oh i dunno my husband just said that spouses can use it but there are mucho stipulations on it, like you have to maintain a certain grade...But i dunno, he could be wrong.

I believe it's only surviving spouses(widows) right now. They were talking about spouses being able to use it, but I doubt that will come to pass for a very long while.

You can always contact VA to ask them about it, because I have heard about 5 different stories on that. best bet is to get mucho info about it before you make plans to use it

Nope spouses cannot use it, belive me I've called VA and asked. Doesnt matter what GPA you have or where you go, unless you are the actual service member who earned the GI bill you will not be able to use it. I'm a pro at this GI Bill crap by this point, lol, dh has been using his for over a year now at two different schools, and there is so much red tape its sickening.

My DH's recruiter told him that I could use it or later on when kids are ready for college they could. But who knows for sure!

GI Bill Transferability
The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2002, added the feature of transferability to the Montgomery GI Bill-Active Duty (MGIB) allowing servicemembers to transfer their benefit to one or more of their dependents. However, each military service has sole discretion to determine if that service will offer the transferability of entitlement option.

The navy has not offered it.

Yeah I believe that so far its only the Air Force that allows it. There have been a lot of rumors surrounding the issue, but when I called and emailed, I was told that I could not use it. I also have not ever heard of a spouse actually ever using it, so I would say no.

I also heard about spouses being able to use it, but they cut it out because many were abusing the situation. for instance only getting married to be able to use the GI Bill. and so forth. I know that they kinda gave TAP back to the spouses but I think that is only overseas.

LOL everyone should know by now that recruiters will lie through their teeth to get someone to join. Nope things have not changed for the Navy, in the Navy right now noone can use it but the service member, I've asked the VA office directly myself. Dh is Currently in school and currently receiving the GI bill.
