I just want to say that is so cool they are getting to do that. I feel that is a part of tradition that needs to stay in the Navy.

It varies on what they do. And alot like to keep it "Secret" It's one of those proud ship moments. My husband is a golden shellback or something like that. He's crossed many times.

Some times they make ya eat some not so tasty things, crawl around on hands and knees, sprayed with water, and alot more. It really varies. It is all in good fun and I think it is a GREAT tradition and 1 I hope never goes away :)

My dh had to eat a raisen out of his chiefs belly button that was covered in PB. :pukey but none the less it is harmless fun. My uderstanding is that it basically an obstacle course of many events. You have to get from point A to point B and that anyone can send you back for any reason to start over.

Where I went on my vacation to visit him in the port call, was only 100 miles from the equator. So, they haven't been far off for quite sometime.

The whole ceremony is silly to me. :shrug

I knew they were near it but I thought you had to cross it??!! They said at the meetings it was unclear as to if they would cross it, thats why this comes as a shock to me! Im not good on geography so maybe one of their ports is below it.

I just think its too cool but not everyone has to like it!!! :)

I didn't say I didn't like it, I just think it's silly!

They are doing alot of flight ops right now, Allen says that they are flying a ton. So, I'm sure that is the reason they are where they are. They'll have to do a little backtracking in a few days. ;)

AWWWW, that xplains it!!! Thanx!!! That is why I was so xcited because I knew they had said something along time ago in the meetings that they may not cross it and now that they are, I think I am more xcited than my DH, who has mentioned nothing about it! But that doesn't surprise me!! :)
