Ok we have a family dog at my moms thats 14 yrs old and been going down hill quite badly. Well they have a vet that will come out to their house Sat to put her to sleep. They want the kids there and I. My kids are 12 and 6. Honestly I dont think they are ready for that esp while my husband is on deployment....What do you guys think?

Personally I don't really think it's benificial for the kids to be there, it's rather morbid imo.

You know your kids better than anyone. If you don't think they're ready, I wouldn't let them be there. I'm sorry about your families dog. It's hard to lose pets that are apart of the family.

My opinion falls in line with what Sunshine said. You know your kids. If you don't think they're ready and you want their dad there for the first real "death" experience, then definately follow your gut.

ok I was 17 when I had to put my dog to sleep and I wasn't prepared for it. I would opt to not have them there. Maybe go over there so they can say their goodbyes, but not to watch the poor thing pass.

I'm sorry about your doggy!
I, personally, would want to put my kiddos in that situation. Even now, I wouldn't want to see my pet getting put to sleep. It would be too depressing of a situation for me.
