View Full Version : half Way night box...
rich'swife739 08-18-2006, 12:34 PM ok ladies, I have done this a million times before (made half way night boxes) but this time around, I cant think of anything new!! Can you help me out with some ideas? I am tired of putting the same stuff in there...take in mind that dh is on a boomer...:) thanks girls!!:thinkin
missinghim 08-18-2006, 12:37 PM I have no idea what a half-way night box is...I get the half-way part but not the night box :giggle ...could you dumb it down a little for me :teehee
rich'swife739 08-18-2006, 12:51 PM lol at half way point through the deployment the guys get a present from their SO...I usually put snacks, magazines, pictures, games - and other fun little things in it...its a YAY WERE HALF WAY DONE present! Our boat has a party for the guys- they get a really nice meal- they give away things like ps2's and x-boxes, mp3 players and gift cards...and then of course the enlisted get to throw pies into the officer's faces for a fee :)
missinghim 08-18-2006, 12:53 PM Oh wow that sounds like so much fun!! Well, I don't really have any ideas since Nick doesn't leave for his 1st six month until January but good luck! :goodvibes
Oh, I just remembered I read somewhere (sorry if this was anyone's idea I don't remember where I read it :blush ) about sending on of those 'barrels of monkeys' and they can use that to count down the days by making a chain and hanging in the doorway and taking a monkey off everyday...it only works for the last month though because I think there are like 20 or 30 monkeys :D
CoffeeGirl 08-18-2006, 01:03 PM confetti all through the box for the celebration part maybe?:shrug :thinking :yes :thumbsup
Brooke 08-18-2006, 01:09 PM playing cards, pic album especially for him, and maybe a giftcard for when he gets home for like a game store and it will make him excited to come home and buy something.
rich'swife739 08-18-2006, 01:19 PM brooke,
I've done all that before!:) Maybe I will have to do it again though.. Thanks for the idea!!! I have about a month to figure it all out :)
LovemyLELT 08-20-2006, 03:17 PM I was gonna say DH always likes a new movie to watch, or game. I guess it depends on what he takes with him...mine takes his laptop, gameboy, ipod and palm underway, so I will get him a new game for either the pc or gameboy, a new book to read, depending on how many he took with him and how long they are gone for (DH can get 6 or 7 books read on a non ORSE 3 monther, and he is a nuke). Um what else, IDK it is tough for me too, sunflower seeds are always good, beef jerky, stuff like that. Maybe a dirty mag, if he's into that?lol Pens are a great staple, can never have too many of those, picture CD or pictures of you/family, I know how tough it is since they go on so many. We are actually getting ready for our first deployment on a FA, and I have yet to make his box...worried since they have no room onboard like they do in the boomers...

pokeyy 08-21-2006, 09:01 AM make a dvd of yourself with a special half way message... I'm thinkin of doing that for DB since his grandmother still has control of the box this year so I can't put in much. for the last mail drop I made a story book about Princess Jackie and Prince Bobby, starting with a pic of each of us as a kid, and then a couple college pics, and then pics together...illustrated it and stuff...it was cute and he loved it!
Maria406 08-23-2006, 11:40 PM weelllll I didn't know about this!!! I hate when I don't know this stuff, I just imagine J being around all these people getting it from their SO's and I didn't send him anything.... I wish I knew! I'll have to get something out to him.... at least I'll know for next time...
Shaky 08-24-2006, 09:42 AM I've recorded my self with my digi cam a couple of times and get the video clips (like 2 or 3 minutes lenght) this has been his favorite parts of the packages. I have soooo much fun making them too, I get to dress up nice or cute and just talk and talk to him. Then he gets to enjoy it all him self on his laptop.
Maria ~ I don't think the guys had anything like that where the wives send gifts for that specific night, or at least I didn't know of it either so I would not worry too much ;)
rich'swife739 08-24-2006, 02:48 PM The thing is, i cant send it to him...it has to be ready to go when he does cause they take them out with the guys. This command is pretty stingy with the amount of things that we can send them while they are gone. I think its pretty bs...i mean on one of the mail drops we were limited to two normal letter size envelopes. They have quite a bit of room on boomers- well as apposed to FA's :) I mean, last patrol, We were in such a hurry to get everything ready (we changed commands three weeks before they went out to sea!!eek!) that dh had me help pack his sea bag...and ya know what I forgot to pack?!! his razor- yeah he had plenty of razor blades though!! and most importantto pack that I forgot- a towel (not to mention utilities and i only packed one dress shoe!)

I was a ombudsman on a Bomer before and I would always here the ladies ask why can we only send a normal size envelope. One reason is you have 100(it could be more or less) wives, girlfriend, mothers, ect. send one envelope a piece that is alot of mail. Also to get those letters to the boat on a mail drop you have to have someone volunteer to take them that also goes for mail coming off of a boat when they are having some one coming off.
I was right there with you this last patrol my husband checked on to the boat and then the boat left about 4 weeks later for a West Pac and the 4 weeks before the boat left it was in and out and I had to set up a PCS move from Hawaii to Washington and try and get everything ready for him to leave. I forgot to make him his halfway box and i didn't send him anything. I felt like such a bad wife.
I hope this Patrol will be better for you and you are able to do things better for him this time. I hope you have a good time making his half way box.
rich'swife739 08-25-2006, 06:52 PM Thank you Angie- I have some stuff started for him- but its gonna be the same ole stuff:) although this time I have made him a few musical calander dates- one plays happy birthday and the other the University of Oklahoma's fight song ::) He is gonna get hell for it cause he is on the USS Nebraska lol but its all in good fun. :)
