Our friend went to Iraq about 3 weeks ago.. I am going to write him a letter and I want to send something.. but I have no clue what to send.. what do they need? like to get? what can u send? I have heard that the post office will provide the packages, is this true? should i send a letter first to ask if there is anything he needs? thanks

When my friend went to Iraq we put his name on a bunch of registeries to recieve carepackages. He still gets them, and e-mails from people around the country, it's nice! He loves it.

www.usps.com You can order packaging materials from there, (boxes, customs labels and such for free) and they'll ship to your home or the nearest post office.. just remember that when you order the boxes, they usually come in a box of 25... I ordered some during DH's last deployment and I think we're gonna have tons left over even after I send him a few boxes when he deploys this time.

It's illegal to mail alcohol or tobacco.. Keep in mind that if you ship him anything that requires batteries, that you need to take the batteries out before putting in in the box. Batteries can explode during shipping so it's better not to have them installed.. I always send the batteries (even new packages that aren't open) in a plastic ziploc bag too, so they can be kept all together.

One thing that's a big hit are those single serve crystal light or koolaid packets that you stir into water. I send my DH (who's always aboard ship) single serve coffee packets that make 1 cup, and tea bags too.

Soft, cushy toilet paper (seriously).

Wipes, chapstick, sunblock, magazines/books, music, movies, snack food :)
