View Full Version : cheap as hell!!!!
Jyll216 01-08-2006, 03:26 PM Why are all the apartments rent in VA beach so cheap!??!
they are really nice too! i mean all im lookin for is a one bedroom.. but i, by myself, can easily afford 2 bedroom apartments! what is going on!?!? is this to good to be true?! or am i used to New Jersey prices?!
Donna 01-08-2006, 03:31 PM you are probably used to New Jersey prices. Right now i think a lot of stuff is a good deal after living in San Diego for 2 years!!!
Brialee 01-08-2006, 03:44 PM It's probably cause you live in Jersey. I know I can't wait to go back to Sc so prices can be reasonable again. You're probably not going to make the same amount of money in Virginia though so that's how it evens out.
Jyll216 01-08-2006, 03:45 PM oh ill be a nurse tho so ill be making pleanty!

She's right, its very patchy with good and bad, so that could be where the good prices are coming from.
Jackie 01-08-2006, 04:48 PM yeah, when we were stationed in Va we lived in norfolka and we found this great big nice apartment for only 500 a month so we moved in....only to find out that we were in the ghetto. just be sure to check the are out and try to get some opinions from people around there
Jyll216 01-08-2006, 04:57 PM im going to check out everything in a few weeks. and most of these places are like.. on the water and beautiful looking!! with like gates to get in.. im wow-ed
dotb182 01-08-2006, 05:08 PM if you have questions about a certain place, let one of us in the norfolk area know, we might be able to give you more info.
Breezy 01-08-2006, 05:26 PM It took us 3 months to get a place that we were willing to accept.
the fact that you are looking at 1bdrms will make it easier but remember just cause it looks good in the day time doesn't mean it will in the night.
Jyll216 01-08-2006, 05:26 PM actually i have a bunch of questions.. i got alist of about 20 differnt places.. i cant decide what i want! haha. one bedrooms are fine for me too.. and i want a fitness center in it! thats it.. a fire place is nice.. but this is what i have so far.... i cant fit anymore onto my favorites.. but also.. does anyone know about the mayflower seaside apartments???

Caimbrie 01-09-2006, 09:50 PM I agree with everything Breezy said.
1 bedrooms are also not nearly as saut after here as bigger places because of the huge ammount of military families here.
Sarah 01-09-2006, 10:15 PM We lived in Hampton Roads for 3 years, and there are some "not so friendly" areas. Even though it looks nice on the outside , you need to look at the surrounding areas. Try to stay away from Portsmouth though.
harrisonsdream 01-10-2006, 11:29 AM if you can try and go there and look at your top 3 or 4 choices
Shannon 01-10-2006, 01:17 PM You're used to Jersey says the other Jersey resident. :) Trust me, outside this state? The prices are gooooooooooooood!! :)

Yeah, Jersey is EXPENSIVE! Just like certain areas of SE Pennsylvania and Delaware! (although the prices for PA where I'm from and San Diego are real close!)
Tiffany 01-10-2006, 07:58 PM BE VERY CAUTIOUS !!! We have a nice apartment in Greenbrier (Chesapeake, VA.) which is a super nice area and we pay a very outrageous rent! I have been looking at other nice areas because I have been here for awhile and all that I have seen are around the same.. way too high!!! It doesn't take long once you've been here awhile to spot the good sides and the bad sides of town. But all the rent here is way too high. I don't see how average familys can even afford to live any where in this area... In this case YOU WILL GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR !!!! If you have any questions please let one of us help you because there are some areas around here that are very very dangerous the other ladies that live in the area know what I am talking about. We all want you in a safe area if we can help it.
Aimee 01-12-2006, 08:55 AM I'm from NY and before db and I chose an apartment, I flew down to VA for the weekend to weed out the good ones from the bad. I had a list of ones I found on the internet, and we ended up not going with ANY of them. Just because the picture online looks nice, doesn't mean it is in person. A lot of them were deceiving and ended up in bad neighborhoods. We found an apartment off of Military Hwy in Norfolk (1 bed) and it's 667 a month. But now we're having problems with things breaking and the management here... it's so frustrating. Anyway, now we're looking to buy a house so we can be more independent and not have to worry about relying on other people to fix what breaks. I suggest you go there and drive around visiting every place in the day and then again at night. Like the other girls said, the Hampton roads area is really hit and miss. You can turn a corner from a good neighborhood and be in a bad one. If you need anymore help, I'm here!
