BLBnJVB3 08-20-2006, 05:01 PM When I was pregnant with Breanna we didn't buy anything til I was in my 7th month. I'm pretty sure the first thing we bought was clothes. We looked around for awhile for the crib, carseat, stroller, etc. When I was pregnant with Johnny we waited til I was in my 5th month. Again I'm pretty sure it was clothes. We had just about everything so we just bought a new carseat (I wanted a new one), some toys (I wanted to get some just for him), and boy clothes. And of course the diapers, wipes, baby shampoo, baby wash, etc. Jodi 08-20-2006, 05:08 PM I usually start buying small things right away if I can find stuff on sale or clearance. The first thing I bought for this baby was clothes and that was before I even got pregnant since they were on clearance cheap and I knew we would be trying. Heather 08-20-2006, 05:09 PM I was told its very bad luck to buy anything before the 7th month so I waited with both my kids and Im sure the first thing I bought was clothes. I've heard its 3 months because its so easy to miscarry at that time and its hard to have all that baby stuff around after a miscarriage. :shrug Same reason people suggest to not tell anyone until you are 3 months along. Kaymara 08-20-2006, 05:20 PM I didnt buy anything for Ethan until after I had my u/s at 18w. My mom made him a few things and brought them when she visited when I was 16w I havent bought anything for this baby yet. I will once I have my big u/s Caimbrie 08-20-2006, 05:51 PM I don't usually buy anything until my first u/s so I know the sex. I can't remember the first thing I bought though... MW5M 08-20-2006, 05:57 PM I've heard its 3 months because its so easy to miscarry at that time and its hard to have all that baby stuff around after a miscarriage. :shrug Same reason people suggest to not tell anyone until you are 3 months along. That is pretty much what Ive always gone by also, at least buying wise... its hard not to tell people your good news KWIM? April 08-20-2006, 06:02 PM That is pretty much what Ive always gone by also, at least buying wise... its hard not to tell people your good news KWIM? :yes I couldnt keep my mouth shut at all :giggle It does make me a bit nervous.... MW5M 08-20-2006, 06:09 PM Buying wise, I guess the first thing I bought, like for George... was fabric, and I started sewing blankets and bibs, and whatnot. First major purchase was a bassinet, which wound up being a complete waste of money... I think Sam was about 6 mo along when my husband bought her the stroller car seat combo... Once we knew what he was I went crazy buying clothing... I cant wait for one of "our" own. :bliss :bliss :bliss :bliss :bliss Joy 08-20-2006, 06:29 PM Onesies and socks around the 5th month. Brandi 08-20-2006, 06:39 PM I think I started buying at around 18-20 weeks, after we found out the sex. Not because I thought it was bad luck or anything, but just mainly because I like the really girly or really boy stuff, not so much the unisex green/yellow. So, I wanted to wait until we knew the sex so I could either get lots of blues or lots of pinks :D If I could find out the sex at 5 weeks, I'd probably start buying at 5 weeks :giggle duckyprincess 08-20-2006, 07:00 PM the first weekend I found out i was preggo... bought mostly pastel colors and mostly pjs and unisex clothes... it wasn't until the sonogram when i started buying everything pink even though people would tell me the sonogram wasn't a sure thing.. MelissaMc424 08-20-2006, 07:11 PM I've heard its 3 months because its so easy to miscarry at that time and its hard to have all that baby stuff around after a miscarriage. :shrug Same reason people suggest to not tell anyone until you are 3 months along. It's generally 3 months... We started buying things for our daughter once we found out (I was about 8 weeks along, and we bought neutral stuff, sleepers and onesies in greens and yellows and white) My parents bought the bassinet and crib, and they were on layaway at walmart as soon as we found out we were having a girl. DH didn't put any of that together until right before he went overseas.. I was induced at 37 weeks.. amandalaine 08-20-2006, 08:12 PM I got a few neutral outfits, but have bought most of the stuff we have now after 19w when we found out it was a boy. CoffeeGirl 08-20-2006, 09:04 PM we bought stuff right away each time little things like nail clippers brushes, blankets etc-we were so excited both times KevzQueen 08-20-2006, 09:56 PM I bought a rocking horse at a garage sale this week. It was only $5. I've also bought toys at garage sales for the daycare, which would also be for the baby. I'll buy more when I know what the gender is. I can't remember for the other kids. Victoria 08-20-2006, 10:11 PM When I FIRST found out I was preggo, I purchased a convertible carseat. ETA: I was like 7 weeks preggo when bought it too...LMAO! April 08-20-2006, 10:19 PM I'm surprised no one has said they bought a baby book right away :shock Heather 08-20-2006, 10:40 PM I'm surprised no one has said they bought a baby book right away :shock I didn't buy a baby book until my kids were both older like Cory was 5. They are the creative memories kit things so its a baby book and scrap book combined. I spend a small fortune on them. I would have likes a regular one just to write in and one for me to record my pregnancy. Jill 08-20-2006, 11:23 PM i bought things around 8 months...........after my baby showers!!! wanted to wait and see what i needed to buy Alex 08-21-2006, 12:06 AM April Congratulations on being preggers... I'm very happy for you :hugs ... I started buying once I knew the sex, at around 18 weeks... :) KevzQueen 08-21-2006, 01:35 AM I only bought a baby book for Colby and didn't even finish it. I'm bad at recording things. I plan on making a scrapbook for this baby so all the pics I take won't end up in plastic bags for years. I'm still trying to decide if I'll actually make scrapbooks or just put theirs in albums. I bought What to Eat When You're Expecting book at a consignment store. I bought a storybook at the same store that tells the kids how the baby grows. footstepswife 08-21-2006, 02:30 AM Which kind of baby book---what to expect when you are expecting or book to give to them later in life. I received my first what to expect book during the class they made us take in the AF clinic, after that I never got rid of it. LOL With Bay we really didnt buy anything until after I knew for sure she was a girl, then we went crazy, so about 22 weeks or so. I bought her book (brag one) right before I went to the hospital, I also had a pregnancy book, and calendars. With Kayt I stated gettting stuff around 18 weeks (we found out she was a girl), and I had the same books and such with her and bought them around the same time. With CJ, around 15 weeks (thought he was a girl again) took most of what I could back around 33 weeks, then bought all boys stuff. With Logan I got his crib at 16weeks mElIsSaE 08-21-2006, 03:34 AM Avent Bottles with this one and with Nate I waited till 21 weeks and got clothes. Toni 08-21-2006, 12:17 PM I start with the big items then work my way down to the small items. I usually didn't start till about 5-6 months. Potatocup 08-21-2006, 12:24 PM My very first purchase was at 10 weeks after we heard the heartbeat. i bought the book "what to expect when you're expecting" and a bib that says "I love Daddy" for DH. then i didn't get anything until after our shower which was at 6 months. |
