Do you wake your baby up after a certain number of hours sleeping? What about bedtime- do you keep them awake after a certain hour until bed?

I was doing that & it seemed to work, but lately no matter what I do, it doesn't help her sleeping. She'll wake every hour tonight, regardless, I'm sure, as thats whats been happening. So today I just pretty much said screw it. I figured she's going through a stage and will eventually get back to normal. So I've tried to wake her up since 3, but she just dozes off no matter what we're doing (ask Becky, she dozed off in my lap while I was holding her today :giggle). :sigh I give up...I am done trying to do a schedule. It will just change once things get good.

:hugs My oldest was so hard to get into a schedule. Maybe it was first time Mom, maybe it was her I do not know. But eventually life got easier. Just try to put her to sleep at the times you want her to and go from there. :hugs

I was...i only let her nap for a certain number of hours (2 1 hr naps & then 30 min. here and there) which she pretty much did herself & then I'd keep her awake past 5 until about 6:30, 7...Worked great! BUt the past few days, forget it.

I will kill him if when he comes home tomorrow, she sleeps!!!

I was always told to never wake a sleeping baby... BUT...I do go by a pretty strict schedule and always have. It worked for us. I adjust it as needed depending on if he is dropping a nap, teething, or whatever. But we still stick to a schedule.

As of now he goes down for a nap around 12:45ish and wakes around 3ish. If he snt up by 3:30 I wake him up. I have NEVER kept him up til a certain time. He gets overly tired that way and will NOT sleep. He goes to sleep at 8:30. Thats bedtime.

When he was younger I went by the 3 hour rule. Never up longer then 3 hours. Then as he hit the stages of dropping naps I would drop it and adjust the times accordingly. When he went from 3 to 2 naps his naptimes were 10am and 2pm. Bedtime was 7pm. Then when he dropped his 2nd nap I pushed the 10 am nap to 11am and dropped the afternoon nap. I dunno. I just watched for his ques that he was tired. I could never keep him up. But thats me. Plus like I said he gets overly tired then and then WONT sleep. Even now if he gets overly tired he will wake up more instead of sleeping thru the night. ETA keep in mind with a schedule you will need to adjust it for things ALOT. I have just learned to adjust it as needed but stay on a schedule

Thats what I was thinking....Maybe it was time for her to sleep a bit more at this time in her life for whatever reason and I was making her overly tired :shrug We'll see.

A growth spurt WILL make her sleep more and she is around that stage!

Yes, I think she just went through one. One day she fit in her clothes & the next she didn't! So she's either still or just got over one...

Paige goes to bed every night at the same time (8pm). If she wakes up before 7 I won't go in and get her until 7 (she just chats with herself :giggle), but she usually sleeps until 7 or 7:30-ish. She takes a nap at 1:30 every day and usually sleeps until 3-3:30. On rare occaisions she'll sleep and sleep and sleep, and I won't let her sleep past 4:30 because bedtime is at 8 and I don't want her talking to herself until 11pm (which she has done on occaision LOL).

Back in the day she took two naps, morning and afternoon, but she's had a pretty consistent bedtime since she was about 6 months old. She's slept through the night pretty much since then. I can't remember the last time she woke in the middle of the night.

I don't ever wake my son up unless I really NEED to be somewhere, because if I do, he'll be in a really cranky mood for the rest of the day. I'm the same way, if I get woken up before I want to wake up, I'll be pretty crabby too!
Ethan takes 2 2-3 hour naps each day. He's almost always in bed before 9pm.

:lol Thats cute Becca (her talking to herself)...Gabby does that too! (well, not talking but baby talk, ya know :D)

Yes, I will start letting her just sleep however long. Before that worked, than it didn't so I started the shorter nap times and that worked, and now its not working so we will go back to the beginning- which is pretty much letting her nap for 2.5-3 hrs about 2x's.

Trent does his own thing. he gets up around 8 or 8:30 and will play for a couple hours. then he (and me!:P ) will take about an hour nap. around 2 or so he will take another 2 hour nap. he goes to bed when he is tired. usually between 9 and 10. forcing him on a schedule is like climbing a mountain while holding an elephant............aint going to happen!!

We have a routine, but I don't normally schedule them. I adjust the time depending on what type of day we're having. If we've had a very long morning, I will let them sleep for pretty much as long as they want, as long as it isn't past 4pm since their normal bedtime is around 8 or 8:30. Their nap time also depends on what time they wake up in the morning, how tired they seem, etc. I just pretty much let them give me ques. If they are tired, I let them sleep. If they aren't tired, they don't have to sleep. I tried letting Jaxon skip some naps here or there since he's getting older, but it wasn't working out well because he was getting overly tired, so I still ask him to lay down for quiet time for at least an hour in the afternoon. He will read a story or two, then usually doze off on his own. I do not ever wake my kids up unless they have been asleep for insane amounts of time (naps longer than 3 or 3 1/2 hours or not getting up until 9:30 or 10 in the morning). Then I'll gently wake them up. Otherwise, I just let them be.

Sydney goes to bed at 9 every night even if she has had a late nap. I try not to let her nap pass 6 but if she take a nap after 6 then she only gets to sleep for about 30 minutes.

Jamison usually gets up bw 700 and 800 am and then about 2-2.5 hours later he goes down for a nap...this can range between 90 minutes to 3 hours.... and then he gets up and plays and has lunch and depending on his first nap he'll go down bw 1-3 for at least an hour of quiet time and he's good about that if he's not overly tired he'll just lay in bed and hang out....He needs time to chill...if I try to skip the quiet time he gets cranky....I hope Gabby gets better with sleep. HUGS! :hugs

Ryan is very consistent with his bed time and naps. He goes to bed around 9pm and wakes up to eat between 6 and 7am then goes back to sleep. He wakes up around 9 and takes his 1st nap of the day around 12pm then takes his 2nd nap around 6pm, both naps last about an hr each. Don't know how I got him in this schedule but it works for us. By the time he is taking his 6pm nap I start cooking dinner so it works out great.

Let me say my son was never a good sleeper!! He just started sleeping through the night at 9 months. He only did it ONCE before and that was when he was 6 months old and it was a fluke that he slept from like 10pm to 6am. He didn't have good, regular naps until he was almost 6 months.

His doctor said not to let him sleep more than 2 hours. So when he finally did start taking naps I would wake him after two hours (normally that didn't happen anyway). He still takes two naps... most are close to 2 hours still. Sometimes the first nap is only an hour or an hour and a half. And some days (bc of church or whatever) he only takes one in the afternoon and it is about 3 hours.

Now (FINALLY!!) he sleeps well through the night... 12 or 13 hours and ussually I don't hear a peep from him (although he is teething now so he wakes up sometimes).

I am lucky because Tooters has slept through the night very early on, and usually sleeps from 8 to 8, give or take an hour. He always took two naps a day, usually from 11-1 and then later afternoon. But we don't let him nap after 5, and he always goes in his crib at 8, whether or not he is tired.

Now that he is teething though, all that is out the window! He takes what I like to call "snack naps" and naps for 15-30 minutes a few times throughout hte day! And he wakes up at random too... poor kiddo! :( But the lack of routine is killing me! :gaah

so now he wakes up about 8:30

nap one about 10:30 or 11 (when we get back from the gym)- wakes up after an hour and a half or two

Nap number 2 around 3ish...

goes to bed around 8 (sometimes 7:30 if he is cranky)

That is almost identical to Riley's old schedule pre teething! :D :five

Madison was so easy to get into a schedule. She slept for about the same length every time for naps, same hours for night time. She was pretty predictable unless we messed up her schedule some how, but she always got right back into it.

Hayden is a different story. He never naps for the same length of time, he was doing great at night until we went to Oregon in April. He just refuses to get into a schedule or to go along with the one I try to set for him. I let him sleep as long as he will for naps though unless it's an afternoon nap and it gets too late. Otherwise he won't go to bed at night.

I don't wake Gavin up.He usually naps for about 2-3 hours ,there have been times that he has selpt for 4 hours. If he takes and extra long nap. I just tire him out before bed time. And it works. We usually go outside, and let him run around. His bedtime is around 8:30-9:00pm. and he's up at 6am. Good luck Rach. I'm sure she'll get on schedule.

I've been very lucky with Rhianen- she's slept through the night for a while. we put her to bed around 7:30p & wake her up at 6am (sometimes she's up then). But she doesn't have any kind of napping schedule. she just doesn't schedule well during the day and since we haven't had a problem with her night sleeping, we don't try. last week, she was sleeping A LOT during the day and we let her sleep. she has a lot of trouble going down for her late afternoon nap and we want her up by 6 or 6:30pm depending on how much she slept during the day. if we try to keep her up or wake her up before she's ready she is overtired and it's hard to put her down then. Good Luck.
