Even now I rarely make him wear shoes inside. Although he'd love it. He LOVES his shoes. So I guess since he walked at 10 months around 11m,onths to 1 year I would put shoes on him every now and then inside. But rarely. Usually only if we went out MW5M 08-26-2006, 12:56 PM Umm I just started attempting to put shoes on George... if you saw the video, you know the outcome at the moment :giggle We will continue to attempt to get him to wear them until he gets used to it. :dunno MelissaMc424 08-26-2006, 01:59 PM Cam had soft soled shoes when she was an infant... when she started walking we moved her into harder soled shoes when we went out places, and she stayed barefoot at home... Now that she's 2, she wears regular kids shoes everywhere, except at home.. JudyB 08-26-2006, 04:48 PM We only did shoes when they were ready to walk....until then we always had socks on them so they could get used to having something on their feet Sarah 08-26-2006, 05:19 PM My husband spent most of his childhood running around barefoot and because of it, both him and his brother are flatfooted. My children started wearing proper shoes for walking when they began to walk. Stride Rite makes wonderful shoes for infants and walkers. HEIDI 08-26-2006, 05:27 PM . Inside we're always barefoot. I don't have flat feet. I've never heard of going barefoot causing flat feet, I always thought it was hereditary, caused by improper walking mechanics (pronation etc.) or weakened tendons because of injury, etc. ETA: I actually looked it up and going barefoot is better for arches and does not cause flat feet. Once he's walking around a lot I'd have him in shoes outside but I really don't see the point of wearing shoes inside. In Hawaii it's considered rude to have shoes on inside someone's house actually. Becca 08-26-2006, 07:26 PM DD doesn't ever wear shoes in the house, so I guess whenever we started playing outside or going places when she was actually walking on her own. Before that I had cute little shoes that I would dress her in for pictures and stuff, but not for an entire outing. PrincessBlue505 08-26-2006, 08:17 PM I've done shoes with Hailey off and on (when i'm in the mood so mostly off) since birth. So when she does wear them it doesn't bother her. She does try to take them off, but only so she can eat them. I let her go barefoot in the house so her toes can grip the carpet as she learns to walk. When we're out in public, we still carry her all the time or have her in a basket or stroller, so since she's pretty good at getting her sandals off, I usually don't bother. But once she wants to start walking out in public, she'll wear shoes. And I'll start this winter once it gets cold since socks won't be enough and she won't wear blankets anymore. Victoria 08-26-2006, 09:59 PM Ethan wears Robeez shoes. They're so much easier for him to walk in than other shoes. JoyS 08-26-2006, 11:01 PM Zach started walking just recently but we made the same mistake with not having him wear shoes simply to get used to them. Now the ONLY shoes he can even walk in are his sandles and that took a lot of will power to get him to keep them on (although he has such TINY ankles they constantly fall off of him). BLBnJVB3 08-26-2006, 11:08 PM For things other than pictures and stuff like that, Breanna started wearing shoes at age 1. Pretty much on he b-day since John's birth mom and grandma came up for her 1st b-day and bought her Stride Rites for her. Those shoes are great by the way. Johnny will have them, too, when he starts walking. With Johnny we have tried to put shoes on him but he hates them. We haven't even been able to get him to leave them on long enough to get a picture. So hopefully when he starts walking he'll be ok with wearing the shoes. Caimbrie 08-27-2006, 12:17 AM I put little shoes on the boys when we go out most of the time as soon as thier feet are really big enough for them. When they start to walk they ALWAYS wear shoes out. They don't wear shoes in the house at all. My husband and I are both completely flat footed and all the boys have been born with flat feet, the docs said there's nothing I can do since they are already flat lol. They do say it's healthy for them to walk around barefoot when they just start walking. |
