I am a little worried about Gabe. I know that I shouldnt compare him to Savannah, but it's hard not to. He is so smart! He has done a lot of stuff quicker than her. He knows how to spell his name. Can spell it on the comp, the magnets on the fridge..... but he cant trace his name with pencil/pen and paper. he can color inside the lines, so i know that it's not a fine motor skill problem.

anywho...... how old were your kids when they were able to write their name?

anywhere from 2 to 6. Took one of my kids a long time to write his name correctly.

what i mean by writing his name.... i will make the broken lines of the letters and all he has to do is trace it. he cant do it.

Well Makkiah could write the letters to his name on his own at 2 but he's "different":giggle I've not had anyone else even close to him in age able to do it.

Have you worked with him on pencil drills? Like drawing a line from right to left, left to right, top to bottom, circles and slants? That's how we started out with writing. Does he write any of his letters?

no he cant do any of his letters. his shapes, you can tell what he was going for, but they are way off. i have worked with him for the last year and by looking at it, you would think i didnt work with him AT ALL!!!! the only thing that i can think that is going on is nerve damage from the vincristine that he got. but then that doesnt make sense, cause he can color and stay inside the lines completely. i dont know....:thinkin we have kindergarten orientation on friday. guess i will just take all my info for the educational side effects that could happen from his chemo and radiation and talk to her about it. that way she has a heads up and we can catch something early if there is anything there.

Donna,
Has Gabe had an occupational therapy evaluation? It sounds like he could benefit from one to see if he needs help with his fine motor skills.

Bailey just started doing it a couple months ago. She turns 4 next month.

I was thinking this same thing. That could determine it

I started with Ashtin right before she turned 4, but it took her a little while to her name without copying what I had wrote. She could write her name on her own right before Kindergarten. it might just take a little time . Has he started school yet Donna??
