DF has Nextel, I have verizon. He got his cell phone bill today and it was $657..we usually waited until free times for our long talks..we're VERY mad:mad But we think it's probably our own fault for being careless. :banghead Anyways, what service do you have? Are there deals offered for military personel? Let me know if you have any ideas because talking everynight is heaven:hugs keeps us sane!!..And we hate having to think about minutes and money when we're chatting!:dunno

We have Sprint; it comes with free sprint to sprint, free nights and weekends, and we pay about 60 a month:)
The only military deal is that they will waive a fee if you decide to cancel his plan whjile he is deployed.

These sound much better that our situation. He has a contract with Nextel that has a huge cancellation fee.:banghead Plus his whole family(they're all veryyy close) have nextels and they 2-way eachother all the time, which is free for them. I think when his contract is up we're going to get a plan together. Did Sprint and Nextel merge??:dunno I thought I heard that. Thanks for all your help everyone:D

We have cingular and I am counting the minutes until my 2 year contract is up with them. I have had nothing but problems with them and they were shady and have done shady things. We'll be switching to verizon...

Yeah, I've been with verizon for about 5 years, and love it.(L) Df and I talked about him switching over to Verizon tonight..he actually brought it up and loves the idea.:yes I didn't think he'd want to because he talks to his family(who have the same service as him) so much, but I guess he doesnt talk to them for long periods of time and it's usually after 9pm anyways. :confused I don't know what we're going to do..but he's only in A school for about 7 or so more weeks, then off to FMSS for 7 weeks where he won't have too much time for phone calls anyways..then he'll be attached to a marine unit and he probably won't have too much phone time then either! :banghead But I just don't know if we should make the switch now or wait it out. :dunno He only has 15 months active because he's NCS(National Call to Service).:hehe Thanks everyone for your help:hugs

I have verizon for about 5 years now and I love it, I don't think I'll ever switch. We have the family share plan right now, we pay about 70$ for both of us, we have 700 anytime minutes, free night and weekend, free long distance, free roaming, free mobile to mobile calling. Most of our calls are to each other, so its fab. And the free long distance and free roaming is awsome. We never use our house phone for anything, and we can travel anywhere without having to worry about extra charges for using our phone. This came in SUPER handy when he was in the Navy and out to sea in different ports. He could call me from anywhere at anytime and we never got any charges for it. And their service areas are the BEST! Verizon phones work ANYWHERE. And I really mean anywhere, dh was everywhere from the boondocks in Maine to the boondocks in Alaska, and even in Canada. His phone worked perfectly no matter where he went, he always had signal when all the other guys with other phone companies never did. We definitely learned our lesson when we First got our phones several years back, after getting a $700+ phone bill when he was out to sea, I did A LOT of rearranging in the plan, lol.

We have AT&T. I pay $68 a month for 3 phones. We have free night and weekends and free long distance on the weekends. We never go over our mintues and there are 3 of us sharing mintues. I won't change to another plan cause it is just a waste of money.

I think we are going to put him on verizon..it's just so much better.:cp He NEVER has service with nextel anyways, and when he calls from his barracks he has to hang out the window, not too fun with Chicago's weather! :inshock lol Anyways thanks to all of you who helped me with this decision, I reallllly appreciate it!:hugs

Actually you get a 15% discount with Sprint for being military. All your SO has to do is call in and give them his command, work # and I think maybe his supervisor's name. I love Sprint! Our bill has NEVER gone over $80 for the 2 phones, 800 shared minuted, everything callie wrote above and we also got unlimited roaming added to our plan. Which was GREAT for when they were almost home and ported in Hawaii, he called me everyday and it didn't cost us a cent extra!
