We want to get a small house dog for the kids, anyone have any suggestions? Like a lap dog, but not a bitter, and not hyper! LOL I know I'm picky!:D

We have a Mini Daschuand and she is a good lap dog not hyper, and great with kids...if we were to ever get another dog I want a daschuan again.
Ummm there's a shi-tzu dog but those some times can be hyper...

I think they're cute as puppies, but not so much as grown adults. I love pugs though, if you were going on the cute factor. But I've never met one that wasn't nuts.

i am a beagle fan. I have one she is small ( 22 pounds) and absolutely sweet.She loves kids and cats but chases squirels.... no weird habits except she likes to sleep under our bed......... I got her from a rescue and you'd ever guess she'd been neglected because she is always friendly and happy.

i have a cocker spaniel. and i think he's the perfect size. buddy is my second one. he's not that great with kids cause he's never been around them, but cocker spaniel is (i believe) in the top 10 of america's favorite dogs. there is a lot of maintance though. they need to be groomed, and as they get older, they tend to get ear infections. but i think they are the best! then again, i'm bias.:giggle

I just got a Shih Tzu Puppy and she is perfect. No shedding and will be between 9-12 lbs. She is not yippy and not hyper. she has had only 3 accidents in my house since we got her in August. You can find a pic of her in the photo gallery.

My mom and her bf has shih tzu's.....they are pretty good lap dogs..one is grouchy...but most dogs take after thier owners....mine does, haha.. but they are good dogs..easy and fast to train..you just have to keep their hair clean or it mats up...or you can just get it buzzed off. And they still look cute....beagles are good dogs...but you have to remember, they hunting dogs...most of them like to bark...and run off... I have a boxer, not a lap dog...and definitely not small but she is great with kids..and most boxers are.

They are not suppose to shed because they have hair like us not fur! Everyone I know who has shih tzus does not shed that is why we got one.

I have a chihuahua and she's awesome :) ...she's 8 months weighs 3 pounds and never barks...well except at her food every now and then but I don't really know what that's all about :screwy ...she is very hyper though so that may not be too good.

i use to have a pug...he was my little buddy and did everything with me..i never met a crazy one. if they get to hyped up they snort because their noses are short :lol

I think all dogs personalities will be different. I have had some shi-tzu dogs before at my moms and some were hyper and one of them was very mellow. Our most hyper dog was a maltese and we had puppies that were half matlese and half shi-tzu some were and some werent hyper.

We have a toy poodle. She is great. For some reason she is very lazy but she is great with the kids when they want to play(and one of my sons is autistic). She was not hard to house train.

WHy not one of those new hybrid dogs that dont shed? I like mini pinchers and pugs! but they can be a little hyper.

they really are! i used to work at a doggie day care and there were a couple of them that came in! one of them would not stop licking you! then...when/if you got him to stop, all he wanted to do was cuddle up in your lap
