Since its been forever since my DH went through bootcamp, my son left yesterday and in his little book they gave him it said he would be allowed to call home to let us know he made it there safely. So far no call, does anyone know when they make this call? Thanks in advance!

sometime during the first week..it will only be like a 30 second call to just literally tell you he is there

Yup... nothing special at all.. I remember DF called his parents really late the night after he got there and it was hey I'm here I've gotta go talk to you later and that was it... his mom said she could hear the RDC's yelling at them in the background

ohhh....thanks. I will continue to wait then. I hope I don't hear the RDCs yelling......that would be hard. Its so different when its your son, my DH is still active duty but he has been in forever and only remembers all the RDCs yelling.

My fiance just completed boot camp in December.:cp He called when he first got there for that 30 second call.:nutts It came at about 9pm the night he got to RTC. He told me that not everyone makes this call though, some kids are just too tired from the trip and skip the pay phones long lines. If you want to know if he got there, you can call RTC(there should be a number somewhere in his packet/book) and if you give them his social security number, they can provide you with his address and insure that he arrived safely. However, you wouldnt be able to talk to him, but it might put your mind at ease!:) He still may call during this week though! Just write him letters to keep yourself "connected" with him, it works wonders.:yes I'm sure he'll be just fine!:mrgreen
Also there's a message board for parents with children going through Recruit Training on navy.com..go to the link "message boards";) It's extremmeelly helpful and you can meet parents with kids in your sons division, possibly even some of his friends! It's awesome!:yeehaw

lol Breezy...thats what my DH said. Anyways I still haven't heard anything yet. but I did go to the navy.com website and most of the moms there said it took a long time for their sons/daughters to call. Most of the moms also called the RTC PAO and got the division and ship number their child was attached to, just so they could start mailing letters. I tried today but I guess its a Mon thru Fri thing. Its kinds of weird because I can't stop thinking about what he is doing. I think DH is getting annoyed with me asking " What is Justin doing now?" :D
