HAs any one ever been over there weight limits and had to pay money back for your move? When we moved to NC from FL we Were about 900 lbs over our weight limit. That was in July and it is now Nov and I have still to recieve anything. When I asked about it when we got here I was told that they would review our file and send us a bill.So i am wondering about how much we are going to have to pay and how long it will take before I find out.TIA

Ok you are given a % of your weight to account for the boxes and packing etc...
We are ALWAYS over our weight but we transfer enough with us that the Navy still pays us for the partial Dity.
He can check with PSD but they more than likely won't charge you like I said cause of the "packing"

We were over ours coming back from overseas, but we didn't get a bill. They just took it out of dh's pay.

We were over on one of our moves. We could have filed a waiver at PSD but we didn't feel like dealing with it so we paid. It wasn't that bad. It was about 6-9 months before we were notified.

So if our limit is 11000 and our weight was 11900 and our packaging and professional has not been subtracted then we may be ok.Is the allowable weight 11000 plus packaging?TIA

they deduct the packaging from the total. so you should be ok. Don't quote me on it. BUT we have never paid the Navy money and like I said we are always over

We were over and it took almost a year for them to start taking it out of his pay. Good Luck hope you don't have to pay.

We've been over by less that 500lbs 2x but both time he was frocked at a higher rank so they let us slide.
I'm seriously concerned with our next move though. We've been here longer than anywhere before and stuff has accumulated.

Why? Its not free. The gov't (aka taxpayers) pays for this if they don't give some limits people would take advantage. The fact we move so often, typically, and have weight limits motivates me to get rid of stuff we don't need to help with that poundage.

I only know of a couple personally that have gotten the bills. One got out and was sent the bill about six months later. Was six hundred dollars, he was six hundred over...made sense, until my other friend got her bill and she was eight hundred over, but was charged roughly $1400 so we figured that it went by how far you went too, since one was a bit over a thousand miles and the other went to the other side of the country. The six hundred one paid theirs, $1400 had it waived.

I remain convinced I'm going to go over my next move weight. I barely scrapped through it the last time. I figure I'm in the five hundred - eight hundred over range. So I've been looking to purge what I can. There is just some stuff we don't NEED to have. I've also started all my big purchases with, how much will that add to my move weight. LOL

we ask that ?? too lol
BTW yes it is poundage and distance.
A friend of ours paid for an overage from Italy to VA:wow
She knew that they were over but didn't think the bill would be that high that took it out of his pay for 18 months

We are pretty certain we'll be way over when it comes time to move. Dh has sold a few of his toys but we have a lot of big heavy stuff. Is there are site you can look up your allowance on?

http://afmove.hq.af.mil/docs/JFTR_Weight_Allowances.htm This is the most "official" thing I could find.

This just looks like a good article for anyone moving; particularly for the first time. http://usmilitary.about.com/od/assignments/l/blpropshipment.htm
eta: I think the allowances on the article are not up to date.

Thanks for all the info it has been great.Like I said we were about 900 over and we went from Jax FL to Raleigh NC so distance wise not to bad.i guess I will just continue to play the wait and see game.
