View Full Version : Amoxicllin
From your experience, did the pink dye in the medicine make your kid cranky or not sleep?
Might sound funny, but his Mom told me her kids got really cranky & when they changed the medicine to one that didn't have dye- they were fine.
She has been on this medicine since the 25th & will not sleep!! She slept good for 2 days and suddenly she wont nap or will sleep for about 5 hours at night.
She will fall asleep for about 30 min. and wake up through out the day.
So it's either a coincidence or the dye is affecting her.
Just wondered if anyone experienced this w/ the medicine.
Kaymara 10-01-2006, 02:51 PM Nope. E did fine on it. He did have probs sleeping but is was because he felt like crap for the most part
I know it's not b/c she feels bad...I know that 100%...
froglove 10-01-2006, 02:53 PM IMO its not the dye... It could be just the way her body reacts to the meds. For some the meds can keep them awake. Other it could make them drowsy.
Jacob was on Amoxicillian before( with the pink dye in it) and it didnt affect him at all.
HTH
DoublEE's Momma 10-01-2006, 03:00 PM Eian has been put on that alot (with the pink dye), and he hasn't had a problem with it at all. At first he would have problems sleeping but that was because he didn't feel well and he hurt, but after that it would make him drowsy, but the doc told us that it might.
I don't think it's the dye though, it's the meds that does it.
Just a question though: How do you know 100% that she isn't feeling icky and that's what's keepin gher awake?
Kaymara 10-01-2006, 03:03 PM Yeah I dont think it is the dye either. She may have something else going on at the same time. It is such a common drug. Amox is 1 of the most commonly prescribed meds. Or it could be how her body is reacting to the medication itself. If you are worried I would call her Dr.

I HIGHLY doubt she is feeling bad b/c her behavior is completely different (besides the sleeping) compared to when she was sick. Also, the first night she went on the medicine, she slept great. She was very congested, coughing really bad, & had a slight ear infection.
After being on it for the so many days, she is no longer congested, no longer has a cough, & seems fine besides not wanting to sleep.
She also now has diarrhea...She's had it for about 2 days now. I dont think the medicine is agreeing with her.
I'll just call her dr.
Just was wondering what you guys experienced.
I have read before that dye does have effects (not necessarily just on children, but on people in general). But I'm sure its jsut how her body is reacting to it.
If you are worried I would call her Dr.
If I was worried, I would definetely call before coming on here and asking :lol
I was just wondering...but after seeing diarrhea just now for the 2nd day, I'm going to call.
z used to have weird reactions to any kind of medicine, esp the time we had her on amox. it wired her. but then again, most cold medicines do as well ;) lucky mommy
Yay...lucky me...I hope it won't do this to her everytime :nutts
I want to take her off & see if that helps :lol (i know I can't)
4 more days of this & then maybe I can get some sleep :no
do you want me to take her for a couple hours this afternoon?
Brandi 10-01-2006, 03:53 PM the diarrhea is pretty normal, I think. Antibiotics have always given my kids the poops and they sometimes don't agree with me when I take them also. Antibiotics are definitely known for causing tummy problems with people, so I don't think that is uncommon at all. I'm not sure about the pink dye. Jaxon has been on amox twice now, i think, and has done okay with it. Both times were ear infections when he was little and he wasn't sleeping well to begin with because his ears hurt.
Side note: I LOVE the way the amox tastes :giggle I wish I could drink it :lol :rofl I used to always think it was a real treat when I was little. Oh mommy, PLEASE give me some medicine :teehee
Thanks Becky, but its ok.
Yeah, same here Brandi...I remember sneaking in the fridge when I was a kid & taking more of it :teehee
I asked the pharmacist about it since her Ped is closed today and he said some diahrrhea is normal.

The diarrhea could be from the medicine.
CoffeeGirl 10-01-2006, 07:08 PM I love the taste of amoxicillin too:teehee My kids nor myself have ever been wired from the dye in the pink one

I was saying that so no one thought I was stupid for asking that...not necessarily at you b/c knowing how you post & who you are as a person, I know you didnt mean it like that...but I have heard others make comments like "why didn't she just call the dr" or something dumb. It wasn't meant towards you! (I guess I haven't paid attention very well b/c I haven't seen that before, so I'm sorry if it seemed I was responding hastily to you)
ilovehimx3 10-01-2006, 10:55 PM im taking that now but im taking the pill... i hate it
Potatocup 10-02-2006, 09:05 AM Rhianen was on amoxycillin until she was 4 mos old, now she's on a septra drug - both had pink dye and she was fine. When we changed meds at 4 mos she was a little more awake than usual for a day or two max. but it didn't really affect nighttime sleep - only naptime.
