Jennygirl 12-03-2005, 11:56 AM I was just there, cause i like to go in there and just for poops and giggles see how much they charge for their dogs...Well, they had a bull terrier that i fell in love with they wanted 1700 bucks for it! UM! I can get a non puppy mill one for cheaper...And then they had an akita...It wasnt the large boned like i like but it was 1000!! I couldnt believe it...I was just about to walk out and they had this puppy(5 month old) border collie in a crate in the MIDDLE OF THE STORE!! he was sooooooooooooooooooooooo sweet...He was on sale for 388 (plus a crate with accessories...) I took him into one of the rooms there and played with him and he wouldnt get out of my lap...The only issue i had was missing hair around the eyes and this cut above the one...HE WAS SOOOOOOOOOO CUTE!! and he knew a bunch of tricks already!!
I just cant believe they sale pets for that much! They had cats for 999 bucks!!
I just choked on my pizza when I read the part about cats being 999 dollars. HOLY CRAP :shock
Jennygirl 12-03-2005, 12:23 PM Yeah they are these weird cats that are hypo allergenic...They have fur like a sheep...THEY WERE WEIRD!
dotb182 12-03-2005, 01:21 PM Wow, i know how you feel, i've been wanting a english bulldog, and happen to see one in a pet store near by, they were asking 3500, needless to say, i don't think i'm getting my bulldog anytime soon.
Jennygirl 12-03-2005, 01:23 PM Yeah...I think its nuts...Its weird today he saw a show on the Border Collie and thought that would be a good match for us...LOL So im looking at them online...You can get one from a breeder cheaper, and most of the time its still cheaper when you have them ship them to you...STUPID PET STORES!
Mandi 12-03-2005, 01:25 PM Man, does that cat do laundry or cook?? I WOULD pay that much if it does!! LOL
dotb182 12-03-2005, 01:38 PM We're you looking for a border collie puppy? if you didn't care if it was a puppy or not, another option is rescues.. just a thought...
Chevy_Gurl 12-03-2005, 01:41 PM :wow It's insane how much they charge for pets. We have stoped at pet stores and just been floored by the prices on their things.
HEIDI 12-03-2005, 01:55 PM 388 (plus a crate with accessories...) , um that is a damned good price for a pet store puppy.......
Rachael 12-03-2005, 01:58 PM 388 (plus a crate with accessories...) , um that is a damned good price for a pet store puppy.......
VERY!
Jennygirl 12-03-2005, 02:38 PM But you said the magic word...PET STORE PUPPY...I used to be friends with someone who worked there and they would get truck loads of sick pets in and they would infect the rest...
No Shannon, we arent just looking at puppies, that was just what they had...Since I wont lie on applications, most rescues we have looked into said no cause he is in the military...
dotb182 12-03-2005, 02:55 PM wow, thats wierd, I can't believe b/c of the military they are having problems with adoptions, I know here it doesn't matter, but i think thats just b/c almost half the area is military...
Jennygirl 12-03-2005, 03:00 PM A lot of people, even the ones that are involved with rescues that are clients that come to my work say its because we move a lot...And like the Akita Rescuse, they said they had an influx of them from people being sent away...but im sure we will find something...And as cute as that puppy was today, I dont want to chance the heartache that I could get...
Have you looked for an independent local or regional breeder? I wouldnt buy a petstore puppy unless I was able to contact the breeder, and investigate the puppy's background. Some petstores do buy from local reputable breeders.
Try the AKC website, they have links for breeders that they back.
Jennygirl 12-03-2005, 03:20 PM Yeah I know...We are just browsing at the moment..I found a breeder that has blues and lilacs, its not that far from where I am now...We are so wishy washy on dog breeds though...We will be fighting this out until we are 80 years old...
Ahh! We started out with 2 pits, and have 6 now, plus a shar pei, and Winston the poodle who is visiting until Christmas. My dh wants a lap dog. Im glad we have our own place, most property owners arent open to pits, and definitely not happy when you have lots of dogs! LOL
Jennygirl 12-03-2005, 03:30 PM I like Pits...But i like the taller ones that come into my work...Shar peis are cute but they make me SUPER ITCHY....I love dogs and if we could have three I would get three, but we only are getting two, one shelter, one pure breed...That was our compromise...Sigh LOL
The ONLY reason I gave in and got a SP was because my dd has wanted one for YEARS. They have the worse skin allergies, skin problems, etc. I knew this going in, but she REALLY REALLY wanted one. Now Im the one taking care of 8 dogs! Lucky for me Winston only has 22 more days here.
Jennygirl 12-03-2005, 03:45 PM I love dogs!! You should see my works website in my user page...I wish we could have 8 dogs!
HEIDI 12-03-2005, 03:47 PM Not ALL pet store puppies are bad... Alot are though due to inbreading... If i had the cash i'd go get that puppy!!!! That is one hell of a deal!!!
Jennygirl 12-03-2005, 03:51 PM I have the cash thats not even remotely the issue...I would have gotten the dog and paid to keep it at my work for in house training...But the eye thing I didnt like, it it wasnt missing fur around the eyes I would have taken it...I dont agree that they honor their pet warrenties either...
Aundi 12-03-2005, 07:52 PM I hate what pet stores charge but they certainly are not always "puppy mill" puppies. I knew an older man in Maine that sold dogs at his pet store in Portland. He had all kinds of flyers about pet stores getting a bad rap...with FACTS disproving them:)
