Are they still calling it OIF II? Or have they moved onto III yet?

Okay, I've been investigating via Google. "The second year in Iraq has been termed Operation Iraqi Freedom II." Rumsfeld referred to it as such in November 2003 along with other sources. It was the second tour of troops that went in from what I can understand. The timeframe seems to be somewhere between October 2003 to Spring 2005. It's mainly reference with regard to the Marine Corp in Iraq.

I brought it up because it was also referenced in the book I'm currently reading "Blood Stripes:....", so I was confused.

Woah. Okay, now even more confusing. This page references many OIFs.
"OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM
OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM I
OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM II
OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM 04-06
OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM 05-07 "

Well apparently the military doesn't refer to it cause dhs order for deployment stated on one ( there were 2 deployments)
"in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom" and the other was
"in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom"
Never was there a 2 listed on any of his orders.
Those 2 deployments were 09/2003-4/2004 and 11/2004-6/2005

It is probably in reference to when they were there

Yeah I looked at it and I read it as that is when they were "there" or planned to be there

Ah-ha! I may have found an explanation!

Explaining the troop rotation is simple: About 130,000 US soldiers in Iraq will go home and 110,000 will take their places for about a year [spring2004], in Operation Iraqi Freedom 2.
In the fall [2004], the rotation for Operation Iraqi Freedom 3 will creak to life, and Speakes and his subordinates will start over. That maneuver will send around 100,000 or so US troops into Iraq, but with fewer vehicles and supplies. Many are expected to be the same troops now heading home.

like I said when they are "there"

Oh, hmm. Maybe the specific battalions are giving them numbered rounds based upon how many tours they've done within Iraqi Freedom. Therefore everything is a little different.

But overall, for the general military, it's plain old Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Okay, I'm confused by the way you keep stating it, but does what I said above sound right?
