You might need to try to get them out and seperate them.. I know some fish will eat babies :sick :eek

You need to either run to the petstore (Walmart probably has it too) and get the little things they make for the guppies to hide, or expect them to be eaten by morning :(

We used to have a lot of guppies. You need to seperate them into their own tank or they will be eatten. Also go to a pets store & get baby guppy food. Baby guppies normally can not eat regular guppy flakes. Ask me how I know! :( They sale a liquid that the babies will eat.

That is so cool you've got the babies! I loved watching them be born & then seeing how tiny they are!

Yep, you need to get that fake grass stuff that they sell for guppies to hide in or else even the mom will eat them...it happened to me, she gave birth and then ate them all up cause I didn't know you needed to seperate them or get the grass...

We didn't have them in a seperate tank, we just got the little floaty things for the top of the tank, like seaweed sort of that they hide in.

you don't 'have' to seperate them but it's better in the long run cause then you know that they are safe.

Yes it is easier to sleep at night when you know for a fact that your babies aren't being eaten :giggle

ok, like a baby fish nursery? is that what I need? I guess we will go get one because I can't live with myself if they get eaten. Crap! :banghead How long are their pregnancies? She seriously blew up over night or something. She was NOT fat a couple days ago. I don't understand it. :neutral None of the babies have come out yet but she is laying on the bottom trying to have them, I think. She is really really super fat. :nutts

:giggle Just seperate them in one of those baby fish thingys (such technical speak, I know) and they should be fine.

I had a fish that kept having babies. The first 2 times I would take care of the babies until we ended up having about 30 fish in the tank. :shock Then it wasn't so cool anymore. But I didn't know she was pregnant until I looked in the tank and saw babies everywhere.

When I was a kid and mine had babies we had a little net that attached to the top of the tank and held the babies in it til they were old enough to go into the tank

We use to have guppies and yes, it really is neat watching them be born. We use to just take out as many of the babies as we possibly could and put them into another tank. We had this small $10 tank, like one gallon, that they could live in for weeks until they were big enough. And you can tell when they are preggo, their tummies will be dark, usually black looking. I have been told that is because the guppies are so light and thin, that the black is all the eyes of the babies showing through. I don't know how true that is, but each time my guppies got a brown/black belly on them, a couple of weeks later, there were babies... but don't worry, guppies have them fast, and often. If you don't rescue them fast enough, there will be more. We just took the regular flakes and crushed them up real fine and put them in the water. We just crushed them till they were like powder, really more or less rubbed them in our fingers till they were powder like. They still ate and survived, so that might work till you find something else. It was always fun waiting to see what colors they would end up being.

That is what we were always told as well! Our females were always orange colored so you could really see the fries pretty easily. :thumbsup

She hasn't had them yet. :dunno But she won't leave the floor of the tank. They never sit down on the bottom of the tank and she's been down there for about 3 or 4 hours now just sitting there down on the gravel, swimming in one place. I don't see black spots though :dunno So, I'm wondering if maybe she just has a tumor or something :shock The other fish will not leave her alone, poor thing. We were not able to get the fish nursery thingy tonight but we'll go out in the morning and pick something up if she has any babies. I'm really starting to wonder though. Maybe she is just dying and is inflating before she kicks the bucket or something. Who knows :nutts These are my first fish so I obviously don't know much :neutral
