OK- for those of us that have one or more deployments under our belts- what would you do different next time, to give the new girls that still have yet to experience a deployment an idea of what NOT to do...

I would say get involved with your support groups. FRG is a good way to meet people and participate in lots of fun things. While being helpful to families with or without children. STAY BUSY.

One thing I have learned was not to freak out when I haven't heard from him in a while. It was hard not to count the days in between hearing for him but no news is good news... I also learned that mail over there may take a lot longer than anticipated to reach.

for me that has never been an issue. my first 2 deployments were before email. so to me, if i get an email :yahoo but it's not a big deal if i dont.

I would say, to really enjoy the time I have for myself. I know some of you have kids and can not really do it.

There are positives to deployments:

1. I can go shopping as much as I want.
2. I can talk for 5 hours on the phone to whom ever I want.
3. I can watch every chick flick known to man.
4. I don't have to watch horror/Kung Fu movies.
5. I can eat fruity pebbles for dinner if I want.
6. I can fart anytime I want and not offend...well the cats still get offended...
7. REMOTE IS ALL MINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
8. Bed all to myself.
9. Covers all to myself.
10. I can sit and read girlie books and cry without getting :rolleyes
11. I can play on the computer till 3:00 am if I want.
12. I have saved sooo much money in razors from not having to shave.

See it is not all bad!!!!!!!

My Best advice for any women regardless if they are a military SO or not is to have a life of your own and your individuality!!!!!

Don't loose yourself in the fact he is gone. Use the time for you... Take a class, start weight training. Just do for you!

I completely agree with Donna on the communication thing
All 4 of our deployments have been completely different and one was on the ground in Iraq so I think each one takes different preperation etc...
