Navybear you know all my problems should I have my baby put me in for it? Would I qualify? Your DH can get into trouble for not having you enrolled. If you guys get stationed somewhere where care is not available for you, he will be in a world of shit. Gabe used to be a Cat. 5. That was downgraded this past april to a 4. we were hoping for lower, cause we are now pretty much stuck in san diego. nancii47 02-24-2008, 02:16 AM We just received orders to Norfolk Va. We have a cat 4 child. We need a house that is 5 bedrooms and wheel chair accessible. I know that there are 20 on Norfolk but not sure if housing on Norfolk is good or not? I was hoping that you all could give me some insight, Are the Schools any good on base? I will have a elementary sped student and middle school. Thanks Nancy nancii47 02-24-2008, 02:34 AM Ok I have sever asmah but my dh has not put in for me to have the EFM becuase he does not want to be limited on where we can live. Is this a bad thing? Navybear you know all my problems should I have my baby put me in for it? Would I qualify? I don't think that it is that bad of a thing. Asthma can be treated at most treatment facilities, and the EFMP program is not a federal mandated program rather it is highly suggested that you enroll your family members. Depending on your medical needs you may never have a need for the program, and we have to remember that the program is there to protect us family members if we in fact need it. For me I don't know what I would do without the program. I have a son with multiple medical and developmental needs, there are only 3 bases that can manage his care, we require central air, and a wheel chair accessible home. Being in the program has allowed us to remain together as a family, but that is not to say that all families are like us and need the program. jmo, Nancy USMCSGTsGirl1239 02-24-2008, 04:14 AM I don't think that it is that bad of a thing. I know for me personally, I have some health issues... CP, Asthma, Allergies, and had a hole in my heart, but if DB and I were to get married I would be very hesitant to go EMFP because I do not want he or I to be limited in assignments. My CP is mild and causes no health issues other than balance problems due to muscle weakness (can be fixed) my Asthma is hardly ever an issue, and I self medicate when need be... which is hardly ever. My allergies, are the same. The hole in my heart was repaired during a clinical trial (no open heart surgery) in 2000 and I have no lasting health effects... and have not required follow-up in 7 years. So really, I would see no need for it unless I or my children when I have them have some sort of very severe issue. sandykay 02-24-2008, 06:20 AM DS is in EFMP. I'm not sure what cat we are (we were just accepted into the program) but he was born cleft lip and palate. We got command sponsored to be in Okinawa with DH nad when we put our paperwork in, the assessors where shocked that the command sponsorship was approved. If you or anyone in the family have any health problems, I would strongly suggest being in EFMP, if you go somewhere and need treatment and there is none, there could be problems. You may have to sacrifice somethings (eg. choice of where you live etc.), but overall it is more benificial to your health. We just got EFMP orders to Utah and even though it was not one of our choices of places we wanted to go, we can atleast get the medical help for DS there. Jen 02-24-2008, 08:22 AM I'm on the efmp. I have a pacemaker and am Cat 3 Kris 02-24-2008, 09:12 AM We just received orders to Norfolk Va. We have a cat 4 child. We need a house that is 5 bedrooms and wheel chair accessible. My house is only a 3 bedroom handicap but it is nice. mossey2000 02-24-2008, 09:19 AM Heather it's helpful to be enrolled. The program makes sure you're not stationed where they can't get you therapies(IE BFE egypt). I'm a Cat 3. Probably because of my depression. I was a Cat 2. Kris 02-24-2008, 09:28 AM I know I need to register I just don't want to do anything that could affect dh's carrier Traci 02-24-2008, 09:58 AM DD and I both are on it. Me for my medical issues and DD for her ADHD. mossey2000 02-24-2008, 11:51 AM Kris-It wont affect his career. It will just affect where YOU can be stationed, he can go anywhere. Sarah 02-24-2008, 12:05 PM I know I need to register I just don't want to do anything that could affect dh's carrier It won't hinder his career at all. It will just limit the places where he can get stationed. Now, it will hurt his career if you don't get into the EFMP program and if they find out that you were holding it off. nancii47 02-24-2008, 10:58 PM I live in Norfolk housing which ones are you looking at? My house is only a 3 bedroom handicap but it is nice. As far as I know there are only one set of houses that are 5 bedroom and wheel chair accessible?? I have no idea where they are located at but do know that they are Norfolk housing if that helps... I guess I am going to have to call base housing and ask some questions to find out which neighborhood have the housing that we need. I am also concerned about the schools I hear so many people talk about how they would never live in Norfolk because the schools are so terrible. We are moving from Hawaii, here the schools are last in the nation and among some of the worst in the nation, so I don't think that it can get any worse then here, but could be wrong...What have been your experiences?? Nancy sailorspride 02-25-2008, 07:02 PM Well...personally I was told the same thing about Norfolk schools also...So I did a bunch of research on the internet and found that the schools in VA beach were among the best in testing and teacher to student ratio. We chose to be in VA Beach where my DS would get the best attention with patient teachers...so far so good. As for the Special Education department, I am not personally attached to it with my child, but I know the lady that heads up the Special Education department at my sons school and she is very nice. I know this doesn't help much but the Norfolk schools tested extremely low and they had higher ratios of children to teachers. sailorspride 02-25-2008, 07:03 PM So does a diagnosis of ADHD automatically put you on the EFMP? We are in the process of paperwork to have my DS checked out "tested" for this.....I dont think it is bad but then we are not sure this is his problem... rosebud* 02-25-2008, 07:05 PM So does a diagnosis of ADHD automatically put you on the EFMP? Lindsey 02-25-2008, 08:21 PM as soon as we know what belle has we have to enroll her bc of all her GI problems...right now Dh is on temp duty bc his ship is deployed and he was sent home to help take care of her Proud_MPWIFE 02-25-2008, 09:22 PM I was suppose to turn in our application over 2 mos ago:wow I keep forgeting. mUst do it next week! I didnt know they had catagories. My son is blind and severly delayed in all areas, so I dont see a problem getting approved |
