View Full Version : "Soothies" for breastfeeding moms
Brandi 10-28-2006, 10:01 AM I just wanted to give these things two HUGE thumbs up. Whoever made them should be a freaking billionaire! These are, BY FAR, the best things I have ever come across for breastfeeding mamas. Hunter had some latching issues for the first day or two and left my nipples bleeding, cracked and throbbing so bad I could barely stand to let my bra or shirt touch them. Latching him and letting him feed was so painful I could have cried. So, I had the lactation consultant come in and help us with his latch and she also brought me some of these soothies things. Let me tell you- INSTANT RELIEF. Not only did it relieve the pain in between feedings but it somehow made latching and feeding not even hurt! I've only been using them for about 24 hours and my nipples are already healing up. :thumbsup They are reusable so you can wear them for at least a few days, but they do eventually wear out. I would suggest every breastfeeding mama stock up with at least one pair just to have on hand in case you have some pain/latching problems. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommended by me! :tu :tu

I'm going to get another pair of them today after Hunter's appt, just to have on hand :D
Thanks! That was pretty much the major reason I gave up trying. I'll have to bookmark that link for the future :thumbsup

I don't know if you tried the lansinoah cream but I did and it didn't help much at all. I was really disappointed after hearing good things about that cream stuff. These soothies things WORK. :thumbsup
Yep, I tried the cream (the hospital had some) and wasn't too impressed either.
LaurenBeth 10-28-2006, 10:18 AM I will have to remember that for my next baby! Thanks!!
Kaymara 10-28-2006, 10:32 AM I may have to get some of those! Thanks! :)
hows BF in general going for you?
Scarlett 10-28-2006, 02:06 PM they are awesome! but just keep thinking in a week or so the pain will be gone and it will be so much easier to BF!
*Crystal* 10-28-2006, 02:08 PM Thanks for that link!!! The pain was one of my reasons for quitting BFing!! Hopefully next time with those I can do it longer!
*~*Cori*~* 10-28-2006, 03:20 PM Awesome! :)
I had like a BF'ing phobia so I didn't go there with Jer... I don't much like ANYTHING or ANYONE touching them. I tried once to BF and it made me feel soooo uncomfy and damn it hurt.
I am contemplating trying with #2... we shall see. But if I do I will definitly look into these.
Brandi 10-28-2006, 05:37 PM I just went and picked up 2 more packs from CVS. They carry them at Walmart, CVS, Walgreens and a few other drug stores. I took their last two packs :giggle They are expensive $11.99 for 1 pair, but soooo sooo worth it. I have two tubes of the lanolin stuff and it hasn't done a darn thing for me, really. These soothies have been my savior for the breastfeeding. I wouldn't have been able to continue without the relief from them because my nipples were bleeding so bad that the blood was all in his mouth when he was feeding :( They've already healed up a good bit just since yesterday though. Breastfeeding is going pretty well so far :yes We did have some latching issues which is what caused all my pain and bleeding, but the lactation person at the hospital was AWESOME! She helped soooo much. We've given him about 2 oz of formula when he was cluster feeding and hasn't seemed to have any issues with the bottle, breast or paci. He's gone back and forth between them with no issues. So, we're doing good so far! :D
mElIsSaE 10-29-2006, 03:59 AM I love the sothies too I tried them a week ago when I was giving up on Bf and now they are my best friend sure worth every dime and same with the nipple shields.
wolfspawprint 10-29-2006, 09:47 AM Brandi, what bottles/pacis are you using? (We're going to be in the position where I want to breastfeed, but I don't want to put a caregiver in the same sort of position that Sarah [Camibrie] is in, so we have to start teaching the bottle as well as the breast)

So far, we've used the Avent bottles for pumped breastmilk and have supplemented formula in the Dr Brown's bottles. He's seemed to have taken both rather well. For the paci's, we just use the regular silicone Nuk paci's and he LOVES them. He took them the day he was born and is already totally addicted :lol Jason and I have taken turns with feeding him the bottle so he will be flexible and hopefully not boycott the boob or the bottle from either of us. Right now, he definitely prefers the breast but he will take the bottle without fussing or fighting. So, it seems to be going good for us!
Melissa, your baby might be flexible and use any bottle. But if he/she isn't, I've heard the Soothies bottles work great! The nipple is supposed to feel very similiar to the nipple on the breast.

Also, take a look around on the pregnancy boards on www.pregnancyweekly.com and read posts about this stuff from mothers who dealt w/ this! Or ask questions...I remember a lot of posts about what bottles work best after we all had our babies, on the April birth board.
wolfspawprint 10-29-2006, 05:02 PM Cool! Thanks!
