View Full Version : Babies and their sleep habits....
Brandi 11-07-2006, 08:59 PM when did your baby (or babies) start to sleep longer chunks of time (more than 2-3 hours at a time)? when did they sleep the night through (more than 4-5 hours at a time)?
Jaxon was colicky until he was about 3-4 months old. Up until then he didn't sleep great but once his colic eased up, we started doing a very modified version of CIO and he then started sleeping the whole night through (at least 6-7 hours, wake up to eat, then back to sleep for another 2-3 hours).
Shelby was a pretty decent sleeper from day one. At only a week or two old, she'd sleep 3-4 hour chunks. Then by a month or so, she was sleeping about 5 hours at a time, waking up to eat, then going back to sleep again. She was very easy in that department :yes
Hunter seems to be a great sleeper during the day but not sleeping that well at night :nutts :neutral He's up every 2 hours or less. :tired He eats then fusses and it normally takes forever for him to go back to sleep. By the time he does go back to sleep, he's back up about an hour or an hour and a half later wanting to eat again. Then repeat :nutts :worried Funny how he'll sleep for 3-4 hours at a time during the day though :imwaiting
Donna 11-07-2006, 09:05 PM Savannah slept through for 6-7 hours straight through the night from day one. I was in heaven!!!
Gabe woke up every 2-3 hours till he was 4 months old, when I started him on cereal.
Chris woke up every 2-3 hours for about 2 months. Then he went to 5-6 hours till about 8 months, and by a year he was sleeping for 8+ hours a night.
*Crystal* 11-07-2006, 09:07 PM Reagan slept pretty much through the night at 2 and half months!! But we also Coslept!
Veronica 11-07-2006, 09:23 PM Val did the same thing...she'd sleep 3-4 hour stretches in the day and only 2 at night...So I ALWAYS had my damn boob in her mouth...we didnt/dont co-sleep so I hardly got any sleep...We started waking her after 2 hours of sleep during the day...and slowly the longer stretches happened at night...once she went to her own room, she went to bed at 6:30-7, woke up at 12am, then again at 3-5am and finally for good at 8am...so for a while I would just get up, give her the boob and she'd go right back to sleep...now that she's weaned (:woohoo) She goes to bed without the boob at 7-8pm wakes for a few minutes around 12-3am(but puts herself back to sleep, I dont get up) and is up for good between 7-8am...God, I just realized, I really didnt get any sleep!
Kaymara 11-07-2006, 09:34 PM E was never the greatest sleeper until he got older. Partially it was our fault. The LC asked us to wake him every 2 hours to eat. Then I would breastfeed and rock him. And Rod would put him in the swing. He got accustomed to rocking I think. It wasnt until he was over a year old that he slept thru the night. Even around 10 months he would wake sometimes every 2-3 hours. Now some nights I would get lucky and he'd sleep for 4-5 hours at night but those were few and far between for quite awhile. And I was so tired I would do anything for sleep so I gave in and would rock him and leth im sleep on me just so I could get some zzzzzz's.
Now tho he sleeps great. He puts himself to sleep, if he wakes in the night he falls back asleep on his own, sleeps all night, etc. So I guess the rough begining was worth it in the long run
mara_jade81 11-07-2006, 10:06 PM Hayden was sleeping in large chunks at night after a few weeks, five hours or so. He started off sleeping about 3-4 hours at a time right away. By four months he was sleeping twelve hours at night! He doesn't do that now though :( I think it has to do with teething but he still does sleep eight to nine hours at a stretch usually.
Madison was such an awful sleeper at first, I swear because she was a little early. Some nights I didn't sleep at all but around six months she started to sleep six to seven hours I think. By eight months she was sleeping twelve hours at night (I think... Can't remember for sure). She is now such a great sleeper and goes to bed easily!
Brandi 11-07-2006, 10:16 PM Staying as busy (mentally and physically) as I do all day with the three kiddos then only getting 1 1/2 to 2 hour stretches of sleep and sometimes not even that much is really wearing me down :nutts Thank God Jason had some paternity leave so he could help out. He goes back to work the day after tomorrow though so I can't even imagine how wiped out I'm going to be :sadeyes Hunter isn't a bad baby at all. He just doesn't like to sleep for very long and he is so hard to get back to sleep at night. I am soo sooo soooo exhausted. That plus just the normal post partum hormones plus minor seasonal depression is really making me a wack job right now :(
trent goes to bed around 9 or so and will wake up around 12. from there i might nurse him a couple of more times and then we get up around 9 or 930. it has been that way since he was born. i am not sure how long he sleeps in between breastfeeding because we co-sleep and i am usually asleep when he eats.
MichelleB 11-07-2006, 11:09 PM Honestly, those first few months were a blur. I felt like she never slept, but I know she did :lol I don't remember when Taylor started sleeping for longer periods of time.
She started sleeping through the night (at least 5 hours) at around 3 months though. Now she is an excellent sleeper thank goodness.
Mommy2Bailey 11-07-2006, 11:11 PM Taylor was sleeping for 10 to 12 hours a night from the day I brought her home from the hospital.
Matthew would only sleep in the bed with me until he was about 4 months old but only because I was breastfeeding and he was so clingy. He started sleeping through the night at about 6 months old.
Scarlett 11-07-2006, 11:14 PM push your side of the bed against the wall and co-sleep. its so much easier to just put hte breast in the ir mouth and let them eat and fall right back to sleep....you will get much better sleep....
Kristin 11-07-2006, 11:46 PM Ethan was 2 weeks old when he slept through the night. Elizabeth was 2!! 2 FRIGGIN years old before she did, before that she was up every 3-4 hours :inshock and Emilee came home from the hospital sleeping all night :D
Punchie 11-08-2006, 10:23 AM DD just started sleeping through the night about 3 wks ago...so around 3.5 months. She'll go anywhere from 6-8 hrs.
