All day today Nathan has been spitting up right after he eats. It seems like SO much is coming out!!! He isn't really cranky or anything but he has been sleeping a bit more today than he usually does. He is still VERY interested in nursing but he won't stay at it for very long. Should I be worried about him getting enough to eat? Or maybe he's getting too much? It is so hard to tell what's going on with him since I'm bf exclusively :nutts :shrug

A lot of babies have reflux, which is just immature sphcinter (sp) muscles of the throat. There really isn't too much you can do about it. If he doesn't seem fussy, he probably isn't too full....it's probably just the reflux.
I remember Sabreena used to spit up so much formula....usually about half of what she ate would come right back up. I seemed to be the only one worried, because it sure didn't bother her.

:giggle For some reason, I thought if I breastfed the baby would NEVER spit up :lol
I formula fed dd and she didn't spit up nearly as much as this poor little guy!

Some babies spit up worse than others, no matter what you feed them. I breast and bottle fed....didn't seem to make a difference. I was doing laundry2 times a day almost everyday.

Do you burp him right after he eats? It could be the formula too!

DD wasn't projectile at first....at first, it just flowed right out....but as she got older....her aim got better. :lol
Burping her did NOT even help....we would burp her, and 10 seconds later....thar she blows!

I usually burp him when I switch sides but lately he seems happy after one side. He does act like he's choking or something when my milk lets down so I pick him up and try to burp him... maybe the milk is coming out too fast for him?

If you let your breasts get too full, the letdown can make milk come a little faster than he can swallow it....try to release some of it if you can before you feed him.

My second child was like that and had to have surgery the day he turned 4 weeks. He had pyloric stenosis. The sphincter at the bottom of his stomach was too long and too thick and was not letting enough formula pass quickly enough. It is usually in boys and is caught between 3 weeks and 3 months. I was lucky that the dr he saw that day knew exactly what it was and didn’t send me away with a pat and say "honey babies spit up" :rolleyes

They sent me to do an ultrasound the next morning and I never got to leave the hospital.

Have you been drinking or eating anything different that would be bothering his tummy?

I don't think so, but I could barely get him to nurse this morning. He'd not even really acting hungry. I had spaghetti last night and a slice of texas toast. I think there may have been garlic on the toast but he nursed ok last night before he went to sleep. I'm confused :dunno

It has been 7 1/2 years since my baby was a "baby" but she spit up after every meal and it worried me to. But the doctor said she was getting enough.
