I'm just curious to see what most of you have done or are planning on doing :)

mostly on base but we have rented before also

This will be our first home on base but before we've rented off base

This is our first base together and we live in housing.

Other...we haven't PCSed together. I imagine Jay will live on base, but I don't think I'll be moving up to JAX with him.

We've done it all. This past PSC was the 1st time we bought a house. Hopefully we can do it at our next duty station also.

I voted on base. But it also depends on what the housing looks like. If it looks like crap, then I'd much rather rent out in town. But it also depends on pay too. Since at our next "duty station", we'll only have Base pay and bas and bah, I'd much rather live in housing.

I voted other. We haven't pcs'd yet but will be doing our 1st one in June after he graduates. We find out for sure where we are going next month and I can't wait!

we live in housing. hopefully if we're able to stay in at some point we'll buy a house

We just bought here in Texas because the housing market was very affordable.

We rented in Japan and we'll probably rent in VA

We have been married for 12 years and lived at 6 different bases and have always lived in housing

i chose other. we either rent or live in housing. depends on where we are. San Diego with 3 kids, it makes more sense to live in housing. We both flat refuse to buy a house till he gets out.

We bought at this duty station since we are hoping to retire here.

We have lived in housing, rented and now bought. In San Diego there is no way we could have afforded to buy when we were down there. We might be able to now but it would be crazy!

We prefer to own. We've kinda outgrown housing to be honest.

We are currently renting because we are at a short term duty station. We'll be here less than a year so it would have been nuts to buy and housing had nothing for us - literally nothing. He's grabbing a school so we would have had to been in student housing only and there were more students than housing so we lost that lottery. But we're pocketing money renting so it worked out in the end.

We hope to buy when we leave here.

It depends on the cost of buying, how much BAH we get and how decent Housing is wherever we move. :)

We rented off base for all but 1 duty station - where we lived in base housing.

well right now we live on base, but next duty station we'll buy. NEVER living on base again!

I put other. When we moved to FL. we moved into housing. After 1 year we rented a house. When we moved here we rented a house. Right now we are saving in order to buy a house when we move to our next duty station.

If rent is affortable then we rent if not we stay in housing.

we rented when we were in CA but we alo had 2 incomes and only 2 kids..
Here in NC we live on base with only his income and 4 kids..

It really depends on where we will be going next.. I know that he wants to buy a house here in NC and I want to buy a house in TX so obviously there are some issues there. :lol

When we PCS again, we want to live on base. However, DH is going recruiting next and we're trying to get it so there is a base with housing on it so that we can live there.

We've been here since 2001. In that time we rented a duplex, than bought a house, then sold the house since DH went to school and we were supposed to go to MD, then DH got sent back here since he wasn't supposed to go to school so we moved on base. I don't mind living on base, except there are to many people to close in our area. And, the house is old!
