View Full Version : Update on our situation...

So, DH went to the doctor on Monday to ask about getting a vasectomy reversal. The doctor looked through his medical record, our son's medical record, and then she went through mine. She saw that I'm taking Tegretol right now, due to my health problems, so ofcourse she inquired further about what is going on with me.

Bottom line is that, she can authorize it for DH to get a vasectomy reversal...and they only do it at Balboa in San Diego, so we would have to go down there. However, she won't authorize it until we find out more about what's going on with my health.

So....I have an appt next week to get a referral down to Balboa to see a Neurologist down there. Hopefully he can get to the bottom of what's going on with me, and then we can move on with DH getting the Vasectomy reveresed.

The biggest problem is with the meds that I'm on. I'm not allowed to take them, and be pregnant at the same time. So, if we can get a concrete diagnosis on my health and find out if I can go off the meds or not, then it will allow us to move forward with TTC.

That's my update for now! I was extremely disappointed when DH came home on Monday and told me that the doctor wouldn't do it right away. But, I still have hope that it will get done. :)

Yes I would imagine that they would want to know what was going on with you. It seemed like it was a pretty scary health scare to send your dh home to you. Why are they waiting to diagnose you? For peace of mind I would want to know.

obviously the situation is under control, and i imagine that they wouldn't be rushing into anything if they thought it detrimental to her health. sure they sent her hubby home early, but it was a good decision for all parties involved as she needed him home for her health and their son.

to my knowledge, they've been working on finding a diagnosis and doing tests... they are inconclusive as of yet.

why should that affect their goal to have another child?

Well, he has discovered 2 things with me so far, but doesn't know what's causing them...They are not "waiting" to diagnose me.

I have severe damage to the nerves in my arms, probably caused by an autoimmune disease, where my immune system attacks my body...but he's not 100% on that, so he's still doing tests to find out. I underwent a nerve conductive study which proved it, and trust me, that was the most unpleasant test I've had to go through so far.

I have Degenerative Disk Disease on the L5, L6, and L7 vertebrae on my spine, but that is relatively unrelated to the problems I'm having.

There is something wrong with my brain. Per his words, all he can do right now is medicate me to help alievate the symptoms until he can figure it out. This week I had to go in for a Lupus and Diabetes tests to rule those out as well.

DH's squadron is kept well up-to-date with my medical history. They know what's going on, they have actually spoken with my doctors. They had no problem with sending my DH home from deployment.

I probably shouldn't have made this long post in order to explain my situation. But now you know, so there is no need to question it.

Im glad that they have told you somewhat of a diagnosis. I must have missed a post about your health.

I wasnt questioning your health or your dh getting sent home.

Good luck to you guys :)

Off topic but I think if Tricare or the Navy will do allow it for one coast then they should do it for all. Kind of jealous of you :), we would like to have another but they won't do it (Tricare) here.

When I read up on the guidelines on Triwest, it did specifically state that different regions will allow certain things that other regions won't...and it also said that even if Tricare doesn't allow a certain procedure, that some MTF's will still do it, primarily because their doctors need to learn how to do the procedures.

Don't lose hope Kym. I also did some research on the out-of-pocket cost for a Vasectomy Reversal. It ranges from $4000-$20,000, with the average being around $10,000. However, if your DH would be willing to get it done under a local anesthetic, instead of general anesthesia, then it would run around $4-5,000.

My DH said that if the military won't do it, then we are going to pay to get it done...and he has no problem getting it done under the local anesthetic.
