View Full Version : ? If your SO is an MA... lemon_parade 01-21-2006, 11:29 PM What kind of hours do they keep for regular work days? How often have they been deployed? What can I expect if my dh is going to be an MA? TIA... I hate not knowing... Caimbrie 01-21-2006, 11:38 PM I think the command has a lot more to do with it all than what his rate is. I do know my husband has tougher hours being an EM nuke though. dotb182 01-22-2006, 11:42 AM Yeah I think where he is stationed is a big factor. B/c i know db is in Norfolk and he works on 3 days off 2 on 2 off 3 ( he basically has every other weekend off), and it keeps rotating like that. He hasn't ever been deployed, (the only time he's left actually was to go to New Orleans to help out) However they have tried to send him to Iraq a few times and luckly he was able to get out of going.... lovinmyMA2 01-22-2006, 12:05 PM Really depends on the command. The have morning, swing, mid, and graveyard shifts with most commands. Right now DH is on swings at his new command. Also depends on if it's a ship, NAS, NAB, etc. Breezy 01-22-2006, 12:14 PM damnit i typed up a butt load of stuff and the freaking page wouldn't load DAMNIT but there are many factors once you know where he is going and such it will be easier to help you btw did you get my PM? I haven't heard back that is why I ask lemon_parade 01-22-2006, 12:21 PM Didn't get a PM from you... :( I really just wanted to sorta verify what his recruiter told me. He's an MA and said that he's only been deployed once even though he's applied for it. As soon as we find out where we'll be I'll let you know, but that probably won't be until April or so. Thanks for the answers, I don't really know how any of this works apparently...:dunno Breezy 01-22-2006, 12:53 PM Ok my dh went in undesignated. Went to a ship tested for BT and that is what he got. Then he was force converted to MM. Went to charleston for Security duty. Liked what he did decided to cross rate to MA. his hours in Charleston were 12 hour shifts 3 days on 3 days off. he actually went to work around 430 and got home around 630. we lived on base so that help with times. they swapped days and nights every month. That part SUCKED!! Then we went to Norfolk to MSF will continue this in another it doesn't like long posts today Breezy 01-22-2006, 12:58 PM MSF is Mobile Security Force. That was Sea duty. He was a plank owner for the precom it was the first of 13 dets. They are stationed in Norfolk, Guam, and SD supposed to have been Rota too but that got moved to Norfolk. The first year there were LOTS of schools. Once they were commissioned he deployed for several missions right away. couple weeks here a month there. Then in late 03 they got sent to Iraq. A 6 month deployment turned into right at 7.5 months. they were told that they wouldn't deploy for 18 months. This was mid April, Nov he was gone again for a 3 month deployment turned into right at 7 months. When they were home they had decent hours. 6-5ish. But between missions, schools etc... He was gone often. BUT was home more in realitly than on shore duty. Breezy 01-22-2006, 01:02 PM We are now on our 2nd shore duty and he goes to work at 4am and gets home between 630-700 pm. He works 2 days off 2 works 3 off 3. BUT with training, schools and gun shoots etc... He isn't home on his days off either. They rarely go to boats just cause there are few billets available but it can and does happen. Most guys straight out of school who aren't married at this particular time in the navy for MAs are going overseas. They are being strict on orders with families cause there are so many "young" guys going in that they can send cheaper. And a lot of guys are getting unacc. tours for a year if they are married. MAs rotation is different too. They do 3 yrs Sea, 3 years shore and 3 yrs overseas. HTHs and let me know if you have more ??s Kellie 01-22-2006, 02:06 PM Phillip just crossrated to MA in July/August. He did 9545 while we were in Sicily. His schedule was 2on 3off, 3on and 2off.But like Breezy said that the days he had off, he wasn't off, he had training, and it usually lasted all day. Breezy 01-22-2006, 02:13 PM Oh and he has the chance to go to a boat he should really take it! Will help so much on the making rank part of this overly manned rate lol Kellie 01-22-2006, 04:34 PM Oh and he has the chance to go to a boat he should really take it! Will help so much on the making rank part of this overly manned rate lol Does it really?? How come?? Breezy 01-22-2006, 04:40 PM Cause there are so few billets available that they can earn their warfare pins that are supposed to be required now Breezy 01-22-2006, 04:42 PM so it looks really good if you busted your ass to get a boat and earned your pin cause there will be so few that get that chance galxy8 01-26-2006, 01:36 PM Depends on the command, but DH was on nights (sucked!!) and now is on days which is so much better to me. LOL! |
