missinghim 12-06-2006, 08:42 AM I read it when I was in middle school and it was pretty graphic for a 13 year old to be reading :yes but it was a wonderful book I thought.
defying_gravity 12-06-2006, 09:37 AM i'm on page 86 and it is awesome so far. :thumbsup
harrisonsdream 12-06-2006, 10:06 AM i read it in high school. its amazingly written. i loved it and as a matter of fact have read it several times for enjoyment outside of school. it brings a whole startling revelation into what it might be like afterdeath. some of the moments in the book made me cry.
alijahsmom06 12-06-2006, 01:33 PM I started the book last night. I am on page 35 so far. I love this book.. It's so sad what happened to her though...It is pretty graphic so far too..I just don't know why people do that to kids. It's discusting...
Becca 12-06-2006, 02:15 PM I've read it before also. I thought it was heartbreaking.
momto5lilmonkeys 12-07-2006, 05:49 PM Im not sure I can read this book :no ... I've read like 20- something pages and I'm just so sick to my stomach already :sadeyes so very sad and heartbreaking!
alijahsmom06 12-07-2006, 06:31 PM That's fine if you can't. I am still reading it. I have gotten further. It's gets better and it doen't get anymore graphic after like the first 40 pages, I wanna say.. Because now it's just she's trying to get her dad to realize that it was Mr. Harvey..
momto5lilmonkeys 12-07-2006, 07:12 PM I want to read it, but I'm not sure I can.. ya know what I mean?
I will tell you that when I was finished with some reading of it today... I gave my kids the BIGGEST hug!! :)
alijahsmom06 12-07-2006, 07:26 PM Awww. Yeah...Makes you grateful for what you have at home.. Lol...I tell you what. I dare some sucker to try and do that to one of my kids.. I'll chop his ass up and feed him to the sharks.. Lol...
Mindy 12-07-2006, 09:59 PM I've read the book before. It's a great read, but it's like reading my worst nightmare.
momto5lilmonkeys 12-08-2006, 03:25 AM I've read the book before. It's a great read, but it's like reading my worst nightmare.
EXACTLY! that is the best way to put it I think!
alijahsmom06 12-09-2006, 01:44 AM Aww. It's gotten good so far...I am at the part where they are holding a memorial for her... You know it kind of gets confusing when she keeps going from the past to the present. I mean you really have to be paying attention.. Lol...What does everyone else think?
defying_gravity 12-10-2006, 08:47 PM i have to admit, i was a little hesitant at first, but i really enjoy it. it is a great book, and i like the writing style
alijahsmom06 12-10-2006, 09:56 PM I love this book so far too.. I haven't even finished yet.. lol.. I usually finish within two days but that was before I had a baby.. Now I have two kids and I am lucky if I get a good days reading in.. Luckily, we have all month.. hehe...
sgmwife1 12-11-2006, 06:59 AM Wow, I am reading and I will admit...this has been difficult to start. I almost put it down in the first few paragraphs. But, I kept going. So far I really am enjoying it. This is the first book I have ever read LIKE this. I am still abit speachless....I will get back to you in a couple of chapters.:)
sgmwife1 12-11-2006, 11:54 PM How is everyone doing with this read???? I am curious to hear from others!!!!
momto5lilmonkeys 12-12-2006, 05:22 AM At first I really couldnt read this book.. I was reading it and feeling sick. so I put the book down for a couple of days. then I was telling DH about the book and decided to read the first chapter to him... after that I started reading it again on my own. I havent gotten too far... just to the point they suspected the boy she liked in school and her sisters visit with the school principal. so not far. but I think Im starting to be 'ok' with the reading. it was hard to take in the beginning. but I plan to finish it :yes
I was thinking..... maybe we should have a different thread for certain chapters of the book... like 1-3,4-7,8-10, etc. so that we dont talk about a point in the book that others may not have gotten to yet. ya know what I mean? so we dont spoil anyones reading :wink what do you gals think?

Gosh, I know exactly what you mean. That is how I felt with this book too. I am to the "im ok with it" stage. Haha.
I agree about the Threads for different chapters too.
;) :D
mrsmccrory 12-13-2006, 11:03 AM I read the book Lucky by Alice Sebold and I liked it so much that I went out and bought Lovely bones, probably a few years ago. And I just looked and I only made it to page 37 in Lovely bones, I think I will have to start reading it again now though.

sgmwife1 12-31-2006, 01:03 AM well...I finished the book. What a great read. How did everyone else feel with the ending? I was alittle disappointed with the turnout but all in all, I really found myself enjoying every page.
Hope everyone liked it.
sgmwife1 12-31-2006, 09:50 AM Bumping this because I REALLY am interested in the opinions of this book. How did everyone one else feel by the end? I have mixed emotions but still loved the read.

well, in the beginning I didnt think that I could finish the book. the details in the beginning were just a bit much for me. :scared
the idea of a non 'traditional' view of heaven was very interesting. and the idea of a 'between' world. and the idea of our loved ones being around us.
I really like Ruth, and her insight. What happens (not sure if everyone has finished this or not) with Ruth and Susie at the sink hole was great. I think it was the best part of the entire book. what an amazing thing that was!
I felt like the ending was rushed... wrapped up. anyone else feel that way??
I would have liked to have seen more happen to Harvey, but at least he paid.

I too would have liked to see more happen to Harvey. I think that is why things felt rushed. I was anticipating a "different" kind of closure for the family. I am so glad I read the book though. As it was hard to start, I really THOUGHT about the authors version of Heaven and the possiblity of that "reality".
Thanks for the comments!!!
defying_gravity 01-01-2007, 01:47 AM i was a little unsure when i started, but i've really enjoyed it. i only have a few more pages left!
momto5lilmonkeys 01-01-2007, 12:22 PM As it was hard to start, I really THOUGHT about the authors version of Heaven and the possiblity of that "reality".
yeh, it was a version or idea of heaven that I had never heard of. It was interesting. The whole concept of what happens after death was interesting to me. It was just a very new way of thinking about it.
I thought the way people in the story touched other peoples lives without knowing it was interesting too. How everyones lives seem to overlap other lives. And the different ways in which people deal with grief.. bringing some people together and tearing others apart.
Thought provoking book.
