View Full Version : How long
BamaGirlTiff 01-24-2006, 11:00 PM How long did it take for you to get pregnant? Me and DH have been married for 3 years and have been trying for the last 6 months, plus 2 months before he went on a 7month deployment last year. We don't have any kids. I'm just praying I get pregnant soon, I want a baby so bad. :(
mara_jade81 01-25-2006, 12:10 AM don't let my answer discourage you, i come from a long line of very fertile women. anyhow my daughter was an oopsie and i got pregnant right away with our son. so first try pretty much.
*Dawn* 01-25-2006, 12:39 AM It took us 6 years..we were told we would never have a baby...dh went on a 9 month deployment and when he got home we got pregnant, imagine that...I guess not having any for 9 months has its benifits...lol
Kaymara 01-25-2006, 06:13 AM It took me 9.5 years. I have fertility issues and with the aid of medication we were finally able to get pregnant and have my son (L)
They say to give it a years time. Thats the "average" If, after a year, you still havent then I would make a Dr's appointment to be on the safe side. Just remember that in any given month, even if circumstances are right, there is only a 25% chance of getting pregnant. You can also buy some ovulation predictor kits to let you know when abouts you are going to ovulate which can help!
G'luck! And if you ever need any fertility info shoot me a PM. I swear after going almost a decade of trying for a baby, I became a walking, talking dictionary on fertility with all the info I read up on etc ;)
Caimbrie 01-25-2006, 07:28 AM I got pregnant the first try for all 4 (lost one of them) I am extremely fertile lol
You don't even have to start worrying about a fertility problem until it's been like 18 months.
i took my last birth control pill in august and got pregnant in september. lost the baby in october and then got pregnant in december!! :wow i no longer let dh near me!! :P
i would not worry about it yet. right when you stop worrying is when you get pregnant. you body will relax and let those little guys do their job!:hehe
BamaGirlTiff 01-25-2006, 09:13 AM thanks ladies
ITCartersWife 01-25-2006, 10:15 AM Our daughter was an oopsie. We weren't trying and he was in school about three hours away. I guess it happened over one of those weekend trips to visit him..hehe, but I know a lot of women who are trying to have babies and you need to give it time. it took my sister in law close to a year to get pregnant. Some women get pregnant really easy and some don't. Every person is different.
rosebud* 01-25-2006, 12:24 PM I got pregnant the first try for all 4 (lost one of them) I am extremely fertile lol
are you sure we aren't the same person? lol Same thing for me, all dh has to do is look at me and I am pregnant.
rosebud* 01-25-2006, 12:24 PM double post
Cdawn45 01-25-2006, 12:47 PM It took me 8 months to get a sticky bean..... lost 2 within the 8 months.
Caimbrie 01-25-2006, 01:16 PM are you sure we aren't the same person? lol Same thing for me, all dh has to do is look at me and I am pregnant.
lol my husband and I joke about that all the time. I am really paranoid this time around. We want one more but we REALLY need to wait a few years because of money ad space... and my sanity lol. I don't want to have an oopsie baby lol
Michelle 01-25-2006, 01:20 PM It took me a year to get pregnant the first time and I ended up having a miscarriage. Two months later I was pregnant again and had a healthy baby girl. The third time only took once. So, you just never know! Be patient, it will happen.
BamaGirlTiff 01-25-2006, 06:39 PM thanks for your advice ladies...I just got off work and went to see my friend who just had a baby on Monday. She had a little girl, and honestly I think she is one of the most beautiful newborns I have ever seen. Her husband told me that they had tried for a while and then gave up. She had went to the doctor to get more birth control when they told her she was pregnant. He said it was a huge surprise for the both of them. I know I need to stop trying and stop thinking about it, but it is just so hard not too...I want a baby so bad. So if thats what I have to do then I guess thats what I'm gonna do. It's just so hard to even "try" or find time to do anything when all this year DH is gonna be gone about 3 weeks every month until June and then he starts work-ups and leaves for cruise in January '07.
The first one was a oopsie and it took me over a year to get pregnant with our 2nd one.
mlstory 01-26-2006, 01:46 PM Hi! I am pretty new but I thought I might offer a little bit of advice.
My husband and I were TTC for about 7-8 months. My doctor finally recommended trying an expectorant, something with guaifenesin. It thins cervical mucus and helps conceive. Shortly after I started taking that we got our BFP.
Good luck!
Kaymara 01-26-2006, 03:47 PM You don't even have to start worrying about a fertility problem until it's been like 18 months.
Actually they say in healthy women under the age of 30 to give it 1 years time. And over 30 to give it 6 months time. 1 year is pretty standard and thats what I was told when I went in to be evaluated when I was 25. Which by then it had been 6 years I had been trying so thats neither here nor there. But the standard for most Dr's is 1 full year of trying.
So if you reach a year and nada I would make an appointment. They can do a blood workup, check hormone levels, check for ovulation, check your husbands sperm count etc.
G'luck again
RockstarMom 01-26-2006, 03:49 PM It's actually said by doctors that if you are a healthy younger woman (under 30), the limit is one year of trying before they will intervene and run tests. If you are over 30 then it is 6 months.
Good Luck. We had a m/c in Nov 99. M/C in Jan 00. Finally PG in Aug 00 and had my DS in May 01. Then I was on an IUD-went off it, m/c in Oct 02. I was just about to go for testing to see if anything was wrong and we got PG in April of 04 w/ our DD.
Maybe you should go and have a conversation with your doctor and see what your options and what their preffered time frame is. HTH.
Good Luck!
stacy 01-26-2006, 06:28 PM It took me 2.5 years of infertility treatments to get Sarah with a couple of miscarriages in there. Then dh went away on westpac and was gone six months back for one and gone for 3 and when he got back from the 3 month deployment we got preg with this baby a week after he got home, lol
KLPNavy 01-28-2006, 04:28 PM It took us close to a year
Michele 01-28-2006, 08:02 PM First one took a couple of months and second one probably the first try. Last one was a surprise. I had no problems getting pregnant.
Meghann 02-05-2006, 08:57 PM It took us 6 years..we were told we would never have a baby...dh went on a 9 month deployment and when he got home we got pregnant, imagine that...I guess not having any for 9 months has its benifits...lol
I can completely relate to that! Of course, it was only a 2-week thing for my husband, but the day he got home was the day our son was conceived. And we hadn't been trying to get pregnant really, we just had never used any protection and it was still 7 months before I did get pregnant. :)
jennyb 02-09-2006, 11:32 AM Our first was an oppsie, I found out I was pregnant the day after I got married. lol Than I found out I was pregnant again when he was 9 months old total oppsie but ended up having a miscarrige a week later. With Our second son we tried for about 7 months gave up and I was going to get on the pill and I found out I was preggo the day before my drs appt.
BLBnJVB3 02-13-2006, 08:20 AM With Breanna it only took one time. I don't mean one month either, lol. With Johnny it took 3 months; the first month we weren't really trying but we weren't doing anything to prevent it either. And now we are trying to get pregnant again and we are on our 2nd month. With Johnny I found the ovulation tests helped. I'm going to get them this week since I should be ovulating next week. Good Luck.
Debra 02-13-2006, 10:23 AM With my first pregnancy, we started trying on June 1 & found out I was pregnant mid-July. But we lost that baby a few weeks later! :(
Started trying again mid-October, & found out I was pregnant with DS mid-November.
Decided to try again in January, beginning of Feb found out I was pregnant. Lost that baby in May.
TTC in November, found out pg in December, lost baby end of January.
TTC in March, + HPT in April...had DD in November.
mikeswife 02-15-2006, 09:06 AM We got prego fast the first time but had a miscarriage. This time it took four months. I am about 6 1/2 weeks. We go in today to see the heart beat.
