View Full Version : Potty Training question
Kaymara 12-11-2006, 05:02 PM So Ethan is doing good. We stilla rent forcing the issue at all. When I let him run around nekkid he will go pee in the potty. (by naked I mean in a shirt with no pants or diaper) Just an automatic thing. Walks back there, sits and goes. With a diaper on he just pees in his diaper. We still havent had a poop in the potty yet. Is this normal? Should I let him run around naked longer? As of now I really only do it from after his nap until bedtime. Should I start letting him do it in the AM and just pray he realizes he needs to poo int here too?
Thanks!
how they did it @ z's daycare was they had her in training underwear, and just sat her on the pot at scheduled times of the day (at first, every 30 mins, then hour, etc...)

Hmmm. I will pick up some of those undies. He does just go and go on his own tho (not poop but thats cuz hes never even attemtped to etc) but peeing he just goes like hes been doing it all along. You'll see him walk briskly down the hall, hear the lid pop up on his toilet and then he comes out clapping :giggle
Thanks :)
Laurie119 12-11-2006, 05:21 PM I would do like Becky recommends. Put him in the underwear when he wakes up in the morning, and only use diapers and/or pullups during nap and bedtime. Pooping on the potty usually takes a little longer, but once he does it once or twice, he'll get the idea.
Yep, I would do what the others said. I had Kota in big girl panties in the day, and she peed through some but it really helped her FEEL and know oh she had to go sit BEFORE she went pee hhhaha! Good luck!!!
Kaymara 12-11-2006, 05:39 PM Thanks all. We really arent that adamant about it right now since he just turned 2. So we'll by some training undies and see what he does in those
I_Love_my_marine 12-11-2006, 05:49 PM I started when my dd was 2 1/2 and did the pull up thing, did the panties thing, did the time thing (every 20 min) but she just looked at me one day and said Mom I need to go potty and never looked back since! She has had about 2 accidents in the last 2 years! Everyone told me when they are ready they will do it! Now I am worried about my son, Does he stand up or sit down to pee? I so dont know!
brea~mama2zay 12-11-2006, 05:54 PM Wow he is doing really well!! Z is 21 months and he pees on the potty 2-3 times a day. I usually let him wear undies or training pants all day when we are home. If he has a diaper on he won't hesitate to pee in it! But he knows when he has undies on that he shouldn't pee in them.

I haven't started pooty training Austin yet, but I have heard from other mom's of boys that its easier to teach them standing because once they learn to sit down then its twice as hard to to teach them to stand and control where they pee.
Kristin 12-12-2006, 09:17 AM Oh my, I feel REALLY behind with Emilee! I started my other 2 when they turned 2 and never had any issues with being scared of the potty chair like Emilee is, when I put her on it she screams and runs out of the bathroom.
Berkley 12-12-2006, 09:23 AM I'm with the other ladies. IF there is a certain time of day he tends to go #2 then have him sit on the potty during that time and read him a book or play a game to amuse him while he sits there. It probably won't work the first time but eventually it should. Just remember not to force it. Good Luck :)
Heather 12-12-2006, 12:18 PM i'd let be naked for a bit longer, like in the am too. try him out in training pants and see how he does. Cory learned to go potty by being naked. I think he did poop on the floor once though.
*~*Cori*~* 12-12-2006, 12:21 PM Good Luck!
Jer is 3 and KNOWS he should go and KNOWS how to go but is too darn lazy to accomplish this. It is frustrating to know he does it out of laziness... He will lay and pee and poop on himself because... We tell him to go go go and then he will still do it. Undies helped none for us he didnt care he was wet... :gaah One day I hope. We take things away... Cartoons, Toys it will work for a few hours then off that trick goes too. :mumble

that's what happens with sydney. anytime i sit her on the potty she absoutly freaks out and crys and screams and clutches to me.
Kaymara 12-13-2006, 11:13 AM Well we expieremented with going naked during the AM today which is when he poos. He has been peeing all AM in the potty but promptly pooped on the floor :rofl Maybe he'll see how nice it feels to not have it smashed against his booty and then register that stuff goes in the potty? Who knows. I know we wont force the issue tho. I did buy some training undies but we're gonna continue with bottomless for now until we get a few poos in the potty
Thanks all!
ainsleys mommy 12-13-2006, 01:34 PM Kristi or others:
How did you start potty training? Ainsley will be 2 on Jan. 6 and the most we have done is sit on the potty for a few seconds. She isn't upset when she's on it, she just won't stay there at all! Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Sorry you had to clean poo off the floor, but that is great that he is doing so good on the pee!
kristy 12-13-2006, 01:37 PM I was told not to force farren to potty train that when he was ready he will start. While I was off work last summer and we lived in Colorado we started potty training. it was just he and i so it was pretty easy. i just put him in his underwear and let him go. if he peed his pants he didnt like it too much. he was potty trained in a week. it took about a week longer to get the pooping part down. but he did. i was more comforting with him about it but when dad got home he was a real ass with him on it. i gave him prizes when he did good. it worked out really well.
mossey2000 12-13-2006, 01:39 PM my Ethan didnt train till he was 3..sometimes ittakes boys longer.

What we did was we gave him the option of doing it. Before his shower he would promptly come to the living room and pee on the floor. So I put the potty in the living room and he'd promptly come out and pee in the potty. So I put the potty back in the bathroom and let him run around naked for an hour or 2 before his shower. He'd promptly go pee in the potty everytime. So I started letting him run naked from naptime til bedtime and he promptly pees in the potty each time. We don't force him, we never scold him if he goes on the floor but he gets lots of claps and a small piece of a cookie for going IN the potty. He just really showed me signs of being ready to pee in there so I took it from there. And like I said I never force the issue. When hes naked 9 times out of 10 he goes back there and goes. If he goes on the floor I just say ohhh we pee in the potty not the floor and he'll nod and say yes. Sometimes I have to remind him. Like he likes to set the table and he was waiting for me to finish the salads so he could take them out to daddy and he was doing the pee pee dance and holding himself. So I asked if he had to go and he grabbed my hand and drug me back to the potty and peed right away :lol And this AM I let him be naked from the time he woke til his nap right now. No pee on the floor at all. Only the poo. He peed in the potty every single time
I realize sometimes it takes boys longer. Ethan is only 2. But since hes peeing in the potty everytime hes naked I am asusming this is a sign of being ready ;) Which is why I give him that option
