View Full Version : Underwire nursing bras
Teresa 12-11-2006, 04:06 PM I have been exclusively breastfeeding for 4 months now and I'm tired of my big ol' droopy boobies :blush I've read the underwire bras are bad for your milk supply but I really need some support, here! Have any of you that have nursed or are nursing experienced any major issues with your milk supply being lowered because of wearing an underwire bra?
TIA
Laurie119 12-11-2006, 04:08 PM I don't see an issue with them as long as they fit properly. Milk is produced within the milk ducts, which are in the breast tissue itself. A properly fitting underwire will rest under the breast tissue, and not squeeze the breast.

True! I started wearing underwires when Z was about 3 months old, and I never had any problems, in fact he nursed until he was 14 months, so I still had a decent supply. :)
Heather 12-12-2006, 11:49 AM I only ever wore underwire nursing bras. I never had any problems
aelsass 12-12-2006, 12:13 PM Im having problems finding a brand I like....any recommendations?
Cherrish 12-12-2006, 05:38 PM I never wore anything but underwire....I just refused to let my breasts go that far south. :lol
Underwire is fine as long as it fits right....if its too tight, it can cause blocked milk ducts, and you don't want those....they hurt like a mofo.
sunshyne 12-12-2006, 05:52 PM I actually did have problems with underwire bras and the amount of breastmilk I was producing. I hate not having underwire so I totally know how your feeling!
Heather 12-12-2006, 06:23 PM the ones target sells is all is ever bought. The ones in the box/pouch thing.
amandalaine 12-12-2006, 08:20 PM I bought one Friday from Motherhood Maternity and also got a bra extender in case it gets tight once the milk actually comes. It seemed comfy when I put it on, and they're pretty inexpensive!
Veronica 12-12-2006, 08:22 PM I couldnt wear them...I got masitis TWICE...that was so painful it was almost unbearable!!!
aelsass 12-12-2006, 08:33 PM you know I was just reading a thing on nursing from my baby's Dr...and it says in there no underwire too....so weird.
Chevy_Gurl 12-12-2006, 10:42 PM Been wearing them for 3 months now and never had a problem with my supply.
Walmart sells underwire nursing bras that have removeable underwires. They are super comfy too :thumbsup

They are doing good! But I think next year we are going to forgo all holidays. I swear for the past week or so that everyone has been getting so hyped up over Christmas, they have been awful...especially Ashlynn. I've had to get onto them both more in the past 2 weeks than I had in a year's time. :duh :vent
Chevy_Gurl 12-12-2006, 11:46 PM Wanna trade? :lmao
ainsleys mommy 12-13-2006, 09:43 AM The lactation consultant I had actually said no one should wear underwire, said it was bad for long periods of time - having said that, uh, I only wear underwire, can't stand the feeling of non-support.
I did have a really good nursing bra that was not underwire, it was made by Medela. There were 2 different styles, one was more like a sports bra and the other was more like a regular bra. Kind of pricey but they felt great! I got mine at Target online, but I'm sure they are sold at lots of other places.
