Ok so when i tell people about my bf being in the navy someone always says something about them being bad into drugs, even though they have to take pee tests. And yes i will be the first to admit my bf had a drug problem before he left for bc but now i am just extremly worried because i dont want to be in a relationship like it was months before he left. I dont even know if i am able to talk about this kinda stuff on here. i just really need some support because i hate hearing that and it just scares me and i dont want to be in a household like that especailly with kids. I would love to hear some feedback on this. thanks yall so much.

Hmm....I haven't really heard too much about this. Anyone I have known to be in the Navy wasn't using drugs.

not heard it. i'm sure some do use drugs but people love to exaggerate. you hear that all sailors cheat on their spouses too and are drunks, etc. etc.

I have seen sailors with drug problems. But those are the ones kicked out shortly there after. The random pee tests help with that....Usually, like everyone said, The stereotype is sailors and drinking and sailors and women. I dont believe in steretypes though because everyone is different. And even in the civilian world you have drug addicts, drinkers, those that cheat etc.

:confuzzle I have never heard anyone associate the military with drugs before. Yes I know of some guys in the service who do use drugs but they have been caught and put into programs. Yes everyonce in awhile you will come across some idiots who think they can do it and get away with it but for the most part they all get caught through their clean sweeps and are dealt with immediately.

I've heard that stereotype, but not about the drugs. But just like the civilian world, there's going to be people who do it. I've heard rumors and stories from DH, but nothing I've witnessed first-hand. Well, I take that back, I've been a witness to people doing stuff while in the service, but just the gateway drug.

I was in the Navy and saw drug use common. It is a very well kept secret. Only 50% get caught and the other 50% get caught later. I saw many people that found ways to hide their abuse. I know of many that still do it and haven't gotten caught. It really depends on who your SO surrounds himself with. I would make sure to address your concerns with him and tell him that unless he is and E-5 and pops a pee test he is not obligated to a hearing. He will get booted out of the Navy withing the week. Generally, the don't even give travel money to get home, they take from his pay and if he doesn't pay it by the time he gets out they take it from your IRS income tax refund.

Yes there's drugs out there. Yes they're available. There was a HUGE bust on my ship (USS Camden) just as I was checking out. It was a meth ring. I haven't heard of any busts lately, but that doesn't mean they're not happening. The cover of Army Times (Marine Times?) a few months ago had a story about a 2 Million dollar drug bust involving officers and cocaine. Dang I wish I'd paid more attention to that so I could give you details.

This is a story from a few years ago, it's just one example:

ETA: Joy, not everyone gets caught.

Most people I know have known has gotten caught but I do know everyone doesn't get caught. Like I said I still know people that haven't gotten caught. Not that they don't deserve it.

i hope it stays like this.. i cant be with someone into shit like this anymore.. i learned my lesson thru many many guys.. and its so much heartbreak..

I thought they would not let you in if you ever used any kind of drugs.

I know how you feel my fiance had a drug problem also before he went in to the navy. and i get worried too because i dont live down there with him so i dont know what he does from what he tells me which is that he drinks... alot.. but you just have to trust his word when he tells you he doesnt do drugs no more.

as long as they pass their piss tests it doesn't matter. db knew someone who was set to go to boot about a month or so before he did and the guy came back with coke in his system from the piss test. i hate drugs too...thank god db has never been involved in it nor have i

Like Joy said you really just have to voice your concerns to you SO. Chances are if he is trying to make this his life he won't go and screw up the first chance he gets, a dishonerable discharge from the navy won't get you much of a life after all is said and done. You have to learn to let things roll off your back, people are always going to be saying something about your choice. I had to learn how to just smile, nod and let it go when people would make rude comments about my choice of lifestyle.

On DHs old ship in SD people were always failing pee tests and getting kicked out.
