View Full Version : pregnancy tests?
Armylove 01-11-2007, 07:53 PM This may be a dumb question, but when they say on the box that you can take it anytime, is there a time in the day when results are easier to get than others? I dont know if I worded that right?
My mom always tells me to take them in the morning, is that because hormone levels are higher in the morning?
And also, do you think all tests are pretty much the same?
Chrissie 01-11-2007, 07:54 PM First morning urine is ALWAYS best!
Chrissie 01-11-2007, 07:54 PM No, not all tests are the same. Check out peeonastick.com to see the differences. I like First Response the best.
Armylove 01-11-2007, 07:55 PM Ive always gone and gotten the cheapest ones, because well, I never really had the money before to spend 20 bucks on one.
Chrissie 01-11-2007, 07:57 PM The cheapest ones dont pick up a low # of hcg. The lower the # it picks up the better b/c you will have a lower # of the hcg horomone in your urine very early in pregnancy.

That makes sense
Chrissie 01-11-2007, 07:59 PM That website I gave you has so much wonderful information on the different tests and what level of horomones they will pick up. There is also some weird stuff on there, but it's worth it to take a look.
Kaymara 01-11-2007, 08:04 PM 1st morning urine is the best because your urine is concentrated. Youve slept 8 hours (normally) with no peeing or drinking water. So the HCG is at its highest
And as Chrissie stated not all tests are the same. SOme detect lower amounts and some higher.
Armylove 01-11-2007, 08:11 PM That website is kinda confusing.
You can buy the strip tests online for about 80 cents apiece. You can get the early pregnancy tests that will detect HCG as low as 15. I've used them with the last 5 pregnancies and they have tested positive as early as 9 DPO and have saved me a ton of money
Chrissie 01-11-2007, 08:12 PM I'll post the direct link to what I was trying to tell you about.
Chrissie 01-11-2007, 08:12 PM http://www.peeonastick.com/hpts.html
Armylove 01-11-2007, 08:12 PM Im checking it out anyways, but I guess since I dont know a lot about it in general, is confusing to me
Chrissie 01-11-2007, 08:13 PM Scroll down and just look at the test names and the sensitivity, the other stuff doesnt really matter. The lower the # the better.
Armylove 01-11-2007, 08:13 PM What is a dissapering postive?
Chrissie 01-11-2007, 08:13 PM so you are looking for something that will pick up between 20-25.

Chrissie 01-11-2007, 08:14 PM How long was it there for?
Armylove 01-11-2007, 08:14 PM I got confused, ok cause I thought the higher the number the better. Ok got it now.
Chrissie 01-11-2007, 08:14 PM Normally if you see a + AT ALL you are pregnant.
Chrissie 01-11-2007, 08:15 PM First Response Early Result is my FAV test, always picked up when I was only like 6 days pregnant.
Armylove 01-11-2007, 08:15 PM I had just seen a thing on there about it, so I was asking. But I got it. It takes me awhile sometimes.

those test strips didn't detect my pregnancy until about 7 days after my missed period LOL (while like 10 diff brands did at 3 days before LOL)
its funny how diff things work for diff ppl/hormone levels... or maybe i got defective ones LOL
Armylove 01-11-2007, 08:42 PM I have noticed though, that when I buy the cheaper ones most of the time, they dont show anything at all. Costing me more in the long run.

I HATE first response early :lol It gives me the faintest line. Answer early was always best for me. It really does vary!
Chrissie 01-11-2007, 08:53 PM Answer early was good for me too.

That's interesting. Mine worked for 5 different pregnancies and early results. Wonder why yours didn't show up. Did you get the early result ones?
ya!! off that website too!! i wonder if i got a defective package... thankfully i only ordered 10 i think. LOL
LaurenBeth 01-11-2007, 09:14 PM I used firwst response.. I took it the day I should have gotten my period and it was positive. Worked for me! ;)
*~*Cori*~* 01-11-2007, 09:59 PM I will take anything but the digitals... they gave me 2 false postives.
But I don't trust anything digital... they can definitly go faulty... they are digitals after all. But that gave me false hope... they have worked correctly for me too but not enough to convince me to trust them 100%
Chrissie 01-11-2007, 10:49 PM I have never taken a digital, I have to see lines LOL.
Amanda 01-12-2007, 06:37 AM well with mine it was never the first urine of the morning but I was late for my period so it showed up regardless. but if you are looking at testing early I'd get a very good one that can detect the hcg(that right? lol) levels early.
ainsleys mommy 01-12-2007, 07:41 AM For me the first one to show was the Equate (wal-mart) brand, it showed positive way before any of the others did.
Ashnbri 01-12-2007, 11:05 AM I dont think it really matters..if you are pregnant a line will appear. They say first morning is the best..but my first test I took came back REALLY dark positive, even darker than the control and I took that test really late at night. The 2nd test I took 2 days later came up really light and was FM urine. BUt you could tell it was +.
I am with you chrissie I have to see lines..digitals dont cut it!
