Hey everybody...I am really new to this. My boyfriend of 2 years hasn't left quite yet for basic training. He leaves on January 24th and he'll be gone for 6 months. I am depressed like none other...I am going to miss him so much. I am at college right now and I haven't seen him for a week...I really need some encouragement cuz I am at the end of my rope right now:tears

I guess it depends on what AIT he has maybe? But 6 months seems long to me.

well hun you should be able to see him for a few days after basic graduation before he goes off to AIT.

It really does get easier, the first days away are always the hardest and as hard as it is try not to count the days(hours,minutes...etc) just stay busy and the time will pass so much quicker.

It always passes easier for those going through it... He'll be so busy and adjusting to things to begin with that time will fly by for him so just make sure you do the same!!! Best wishes to you and welcome to the site.. :hugs

I can remember when my wife went through Navy basic training and the first week was long but I asked for more hours at work and went bowling a lot with friends. Write your SO a lot, he will appreciate it. I did with my wife and it got to the point that she was getting letters everyday. It helps with morale for you and him. There are a lot of people here that can help you out and just be here to listen. I know its not the same as in person but it is better then sitting around stewing over it and getting upset. Keep yourself busy and you will be fine and welcome to the site!!!

I know how you feel, girl... I'm in college too, and I'm not sure sometimes how I'm gonna focus on school. But I'll give you some advice... the first week is the hardest, definitely... just be strong, write him everyday [he'll love it], and stay busy. Go work out, hang out with your friends, surf the Web, watch seasons of your fave TV shows... and remember, it is OK to cry. And everyone on here is really nice & helpful... and if you need to PM me ever, you can. I'm a good listener. My BF is in Army Basic Training right now at Ft. Leonard Wood & he's about halfway done! Things WILL get easier!

I'm feeling the same way, I'm in school right now about to start spring semester and I don't know how I'm gonna focus either. I'm new to this site too..my bf is a sailor stationed at Corry in pensacola finishing his A school right now. We're waiting for him to get his orders either tmrw or mon most likely :ohno Hang in there, it will get better. He's lucky to have you there for him! Make sure you write him a lot as was said earlier, it'll mean a lot to him and help you some too.
