If a guy is in the military and his girlfriend is pregnant, is she covered by Tri-care? Who pays for her medical expenses? When the baby is born, will he/she be a dependent of the AD?

Help because I'm confused. :puzz :puzz

This isn't about moi. :teehee

I dont think they girl would be covered if they are not married but once the baby is born the baby would will have medical. He just needs to put the baby on as his dependent and then the baby woud get an ID.

Yup, I think that's how it works. The mother will not be covered under Tricare until they are married. Once the baby is born he/she can be enrolled in tricare. Plus I believe mom will have commisary/NEX benefits but ONLY for the baby. Not sure how exactly that works though.

Another question, so the gf would have to pay for her own medical expenses?

yup. unless he gets her independent insurance (ie blue cross, cigna, etc) but it can't be through the mil unless they are married

I am not sure if all tricare/military are the same but he will have to prove the baby is his(paternity test). We just had friends that went through this last year. The baby couldn't get on page 2 until they were married or the paternity test was done.

I believe you have to be married to be covered by tricare.

I also called Tricare (within the last couple of weeks) for someone else, and they did say that if the couple were unmarried when the baby was born-a paternity test would have to be ordered for the baby to be covered underneath Tricare. If they get married before the baby is born, then they won't have to get the paternity test.

She may be able to get medicare or low income insurance to cover her prenatal care.

the girlfriend can get medicaid from her obgyn, she just goes in and fills out the paper work and then will recieve a letter in the mail giving her acct info, on who her person is to talk too. But he can put the baby under tricare and deers. they will just need the birth cert. with his name on it.
