it was the same cream that i had been given for Gabe's rear when he wound up with it down there to after some heavy rounds of antibiotics. i dont remember the name of it though.... it was over 2 years ago now.

I think you may be talking about Genetian Violet.

It took forever for my son to get rid of it. He had both Nystatin and Genetian Violet. I did not breast feed so I didn't have to deal with my being treated. I just remember what a pain in the ass it was. I was not the sharpest tool in the shed when he got it. I looked at him and told my DH he had milk stuck to his tounge.LOL

I had terriable thrush with my second son....here is the full story I posted on a mommy board I go to ...

WHen I was diagnosed with thrush in March of 05 I did alot of research...so I thought I would share my thrush knowledge!

Signs of thrush....

Baby has a white tongue and or mouth/lips
Baby pulls off frequently while nursing (sore mouth)
Itchy nipples
Red nipples after nursing
Small red blister like sores on nipples/areola after nursing
The feeling of a muscle in your back/side pulling while nursing
Sore nipples for no aparent reason..(bad latch ect)

Threatment options for thrush...

Go to your Dr and get a perscription for Oral Nystain for baby and Lotramin cream for yourself
go to Walgreens and get gentian voilet...use it at 1% strength...you might have to dilute it with distiled water...then use a q-tip to paint it on your nipples then feed baby to get it on the white on babys tongue, if the color is all gone after feeding repaint yourself...
ditch the cloth nursing pads for a while and use diaposable, wash all the cloth pads and bras and anything that comes in contact with your nipples in HOT water...
you can also take Acodiphilolus its a natural enzyme available over the counter at Walgreens, eat yougart with active live cultures, also try Lotramin cream for your nipples if the violet doesnt work or you are afraid of the purple staining because its a stainer! You can also take Grapefruit seed extract also avail over the counter....at most healthfood stores

Just wanted to add~ I was treated with Nystain, Lotramin, Gentian Voilet, and Prescription for Diflucan and nothing killed the thrush, my son still had white gums and lips and my nipples still had small close set blisters anywhere his mouth touched. Much worse than any pics I have found online of thrush. The only thing that eventually worked was me taking 20-30 drops of GSE every morning in a small amount of milk, stir it to keep it in solution and drink it down fast! I did that daily untill he weaned and we never had another problem.

yes and it is in all forms but in the mouth its oral thrush and it is a pain cause it passes back in forth when u nurse..and its like little sores on tongue or mouth...my baby has them on the inside of her lip...so it hurts them a lot . It is caused by all sorts of reasons but moisture is one of the main ones...

I'm not sure. Brayden had it once but it wasn't very bad. He wasn't nursing then. It cleared on it's own in a couple of days. Good luck!!
