View Full Version : Temping ?
*~*Cori*~* 01-19-2007, 12:01 PM Ok... I decided to start temping today. I haven't went out and got the BBT thermometer yet but I used the digital one we have since it also holds the temp. Well today it said 97.3 do I add a degree? Isn't that kinda low?
When you get ready to ovulate does it go up or down?
Whats the norm temp for when you start to ovulate?
I tried to read up on it on Fertility Friend and all but it confuses me so I figured I would ask people I knew that could write it out in terms I understood :P
Thanks :)
dont add a degree
my normal temp is 96.7
*~*Cori*~* 01-19-2007, 12:06 PM OK! Thanks Bec :)
So say I do it everyday then it should be about the same and then what happens when I get ready to ovulate?
It will drop or raise?
Kaymara 01-19-2007, 12:06 PM There is no normal temp for ovulation. Your temp is YOUR temp. It basis it off YOUR temp and no one elses. You are looking for 3 elevated temps in a row and that confirms ovulation. The first month you get to know your baseline temps and such. The thing with temping is you can average it, add a degree etc. you want YOUR temp. Everyones temp is different.
you have whats called your baseline (coverline) temperature.... when you ovulate, your temp goes up for at least 3 days in a row... if your temp spikes one day, but goes back to normal the next day,and the next day after, you did not ovulate. if it stays elevated for at least 3 days, then drops, chances are, you ovulated.... if you conceive, i believe your temp will stay elevated for the rest of your cycle... i know mine is.
if you want to go look at my chart/calendar, it might help you.
it won't PREDICT ovulation. it will just tell you, in retrospect, when you're ovulated/already ovulated....
Kaymara 01-19-2007, 12:08 PM OK! Thanks Bec :)

You cannot really PREDICT ovulation well with temping. You can CONFIRM it with temping. Once your temp raises and stays elevated for 3 consecutive days then it will confirm you have indeed ovulated
*~*Cori*~* 01-19-2007, 12:10 PM Hmm I tried to add the temp to my chart on fertility friend and it automatically said today was day 1 of my cycle but its not... I still haven't had AF. Im more like on day 57 lol

Because you would normally start on cd1. First day of bleed
*~*Cori*~* 01-19-2007, 12:11 PM ok that makes sense thanks :)
*~*Cori*~* 01-19-2007, 12:12 PM I can't do crap till I ever get AF :banghead

WHERE THE RED DASHED LINES MEET IS OVULATION DAY.... see how my temp dips, then rises for more than 3 days.... then my temp has been above coverline since then....
*~*Cori*~* 01-19-2007, 01:16 PM That's really interesting!
Kinda confusing but very neat to learn about!
I just wanted to add that it's important that you take your temp at the same time every day, otherwise you will have variations... good luck!
Jennygirl 01-19-2007, 05:01 PM I started today! And mine was like 97.1...
I found this website its like fertilityfriend.com or something and they keep a normal calander and a temp one for you!
....yes....you put your data on the "normal" calendar and it makes a chart for you (fertility friend)

where did you think i got the chart above ;)
*~*Cori*~* 01-20-2007, 08:07 AM Today mine was 97.7
Looking at your Chart Bec, it seems normal to jump 4 or so degrees over the course of a coupld days.
*~*Cori*~* 01-20-2007, 08:08 AM Im also the moron that didn't notice that the bottom of the calender of Fertilty Friend had the chart. Since I started temping yesteday and of course it auto set it as day one of my cylce which it's not...
Kaymara 01-20-2007, 08:20 AM Cori are you using a regular thermometer? Because they arent usually as accurate as a BBT one for ovulation...Make sure you take it at the SAME time every single day and before even getting out of bed etc. Just reach over, grab it, stick it in mouth and wait for it to beep...
Also you will notice flucuations in your temp which is normal. So say one day it'll be 97.4 and the next could be 97.6 and the next could be 97.3 etc
Here. This site gives you a decent rundown

And remember you cannot use temping to predict ovulation. Only to confirm it. So this will tell you if you are indeed ovulating. Used in conjunction with OPK's it can be very beneficial because you would have 2 confirmations of O and the OPK can tell you a day or 2 ahead of time. If your OPK is positive and your temps do not reflect that then you havent ovulated....
Jennygirl 01-20-2007, 08:56 AM Rebecca I didnt even see your post LOL I just posted without looking at everything and everytime I do that something like that happens LOL
I temped an hour later today and it was about the same! So if you temp at 530am you should only temp then? that sucks cause i get an hours more of sleep on the weekend LOL

Yes. SAME time everyday. But if you buy a BBT thermometer it SAVES the temp so set your alarm, pop it in your mouth, pull it out, turn it off, go back to sleep, then record the temp when you wake up.
Jennygirl 01-20-2007, 09:14 AM Awesome thanks!! Im going to do that!
Today mine was 97.7
Looking at your Chart Bec, it seems normal to jump 4 or so degrees over the course of a coupld days.
actually, it's ONLY about 2 degrees.... my lowest is around 96.9, highest 98.6 ;)
what CONFIRMS ovulation is 3 days of elevated temps ABOVE coverline....
*~*Cori*~* 01-22-2007, 10:08 AM :lol
I didn't mean to say "4 full degrees" I mean like the 97.3 jumped to 97.7 so that would be like 4 tenths or something. It sounds menial but it makes my chart look crazy! :lmao I am so :nutts sometimes.. 4 degrees! yea I might want to discard that one if I got a 100+ temp :P
You can keep temping and charting Cori. When you start AF and a new cycle you will tell FF to not use this chart in it's calculations as it will throw things off. You can also record a temp so that's it's on there but tell it not to use that temp if it's way out of wack for some reason (DH took all the covers so temp was really low, etc). After several cycles FF will starting giving you a "window" of ovulation based on your previous cycles. It all seems confusing but once you learn it and do it for a while it's much easier.

This is my chart with Taniyah. At the very bottom it has the row of green boxes. That's when it was saying that I would most likely O based an previous stats. The pink boxes are when they estimated I would start AF based on previous stats.
*~*Cori*~* 01-22-2007, 10:40 AM Thanks Ste :)
I like looking at the charts that are already past ovulation... it makes more sense to me when I see it all come together

This is my chart homepage. You can look at the charts that I have published on it. There is a mixture of pregnancy and non pregnancy charts.
