So DD isn't very patient at Dr. appts since she is only 1. I have a "woman's" dr. appointment coming up that I want taken care of before DH comes back from training. We're new to the area (and DD doesn't do well with babysitters in the first place) so I don't really know many people to watch her. Usually I just leave her with DH when I have an appointment, but since he's not here, I'm not sure what to do.
What does everyone do with their kids while their DH is deployed when the grown up has a doctor's appointment. Do you just take the kids with you, do you get a babysitter (what do u do if u haven't been there long enough to trust anyone to watch ur kids)?
Before I knew anyone at our last duty station I strapped my kid in the stroller and took her in.
After I became very close with some friends we would watch each other's kids for things like that and it worked out great. Sometimes my daughter would cry for a while but you just have to do it.
Good luck!

I take Brayden to the hourly child care on post when I have to do things lie that. The hourly care is afforable and they do a good job. Most places don't want you to bring children (unless they are an infant).

:yes :yes :yes
The CDH does hourly childcare for things like that and they know how to handle kids who don't do well with sitters. Our naval hospital wont allow kids at ANY dr's appts. Period. So, lots of parents take their kids to the CDH.

I was told they did not do hourly. I went in and checked for that exact reason. I was allowed to have my kids at some appointments I had. I had some very severe pain. I thought maybe I was having a tubal pregnancy. I made an appointment to see the DR. when my son was in school so I'd only have my daughter and the dr. turned me away. I was pretty pissed. Later that night I was feeling so bad and in so much pain I ended taking both my kids with me to the ER. The ER Dr. did everything he needed to do and the nurse talked with my kids to keep them busy. It really sucked. I was pretty mad becasue something could have been very very wrong and I could have died. A similar thing happened when I though I was having a stroke. I called for an ambulence (because thats what Johns command told me to do) and they wouldn't come becasue I was alone with my daughter. They had to get comformation my husband was on his way home. WTF is that crap? Next time I'll just die instead call get help.
ok Sorry for the rant and thread jack
is there anyone from this board in your area you would feel comfortable with? Any neighbors you can chat up and get friendly with? Thats all I had in GL was neighbors and people from this board

i take my kids to a CDH. It cost me $5.00/hr. There are so many on the base that is is fairly easy to find one available even at last minute. You should be able to go to The child development center on your base and request a list of CDH providers.

I've taken DD with me to GYN appointments and a couple PCM appointments before. They usually do not mind (my GYN loves seeing her, since he delivered her.) I always make sure she has something to keep her occupied, like toy cars or a color wonder book/markers. I have a backpack that I take when I HAVE to take her somewhere like that, and it's always LOADED with things for her to do.
