View Full Version : Am I the only one?
I was just looking at my neice's (sister in law's kid) babysite and a few pictures shows her in her car seat. Well, the straps don't look that tight & the harness part is not squarely positioned on her chest.
Now, I've seen pictures on here too that were like that. So am I the only one that makes sure her straps are as tight as they should be & that her harness part is positioned in the right way?
I rarely see that :shrug Normally the straps are loose & the harness part is down by their waste.
I know it can be hard when they have a jacket on, but I still make sure it's tight. And it's obvious when you look at pics, that the straps aren't that tight.
Caimbrie 01-30-2007, 10:41 AM I am very anal about it. Tony never payes much attention and I end up pissed at him for it and I have to go fix the kids in the back seat.
It bugs the hell out of me when I see pics of kids not strapped in right and it's hard for me not to say something to people. Just yesterday my ex sil showed me a pic of her son in the car and the straps were SO loose and I came so close to saying something.
I make sure the harness is across the chest and the straps are tight to the point where I could only fit one finger inside, Ryan doesn't like it much but it's for his own safety.
~Jess~ 01-30-2007, 10:50 AM I'm with you on this. I always make sure ella's straps are tight and the clip harness part is up at her breast bone. When she was in her carrier it was hard fro me to ajust the straps so I admit sometimes they were loss :slap but now that she's in her big girl carseat I can adjust the tightness by pulling the strap so they make it much easier. I think more carseats sould be easier to adjust.
Veronica 01-30-2007, 11:14 AM Val gets strapped in so tightly that I can barely even put my finger between her and the straps...and I'll take off her coats so she fits right. I see a lot of kids with the harness by their waists...
Heather 01-30-2007, 12:21 PM I see it all the time too. even on here. Pretty often on here too. I have a hard time not saying anything to the person posting the pictures. Im really anal about it. my kids have always had nice and snug straps and the clip across their chest. i also make sure the carseat belted in the car cant move more than inch in any direction. I do not want to be responsible for my child being injured due to something I didn't do right especially if I know better.
*Crystal* 01-30-2007, 12:31 PM We make sure its right on DD!! Better to stop for a minute to check it than end up loosing them!!
LaurenBeth 01-30-2007, 12:33 PM no, i do it too. :)
Donna 01-30-2007, 12:39 PM I know I have snapped pics right after putting the kids in their carseats, before we are ready to go. So at that moment they arent snug. But before closing the car door i make sure they are snug and right..... Just wanted to point out that not all people have their kids riding like that, just because the pic shows it.
amandalaine 01-30-2007, 12:41 PM I make sure the harness is across the chest and the straps are tight to the point where I could only fit one finger inside
Ditto!
*~*Cori*~* 01-30-2007, 01:43 PM I was very anal about Jerron's when he was an infant as well.
I would take pics of him in it after getting home or before taking off (infant carrier) and the straps might not have been up top par but once he was in the car they were. :yes
footstepswife 01-30-2007, 03:00 PM Yeah, all my kids have always been in there tight.
Brandi 01-30-2007, 03:25 PM I know I have snapped pics right after putting the kids in their carseats, before we are ready to go. So at that moment they arent snug. Good point. :yes
Some people probably don't do it right but it's hard to judge when you really don't know much about the situation. I never fix their straps until right before I close both doors. :dunno
SezzySue 01-30-2007, 03:28 PM i think there is something a little in between. I know I always make them as tight as I can and still buckle it then I raise the center peice up for better restraint
Krisha 01-30-2007, 03:29 PM I put our dd's clip where it belongs and by the time I'm in the drivers seat she pulls it down. It's a constant battle/
Kaymara 01-30-2007, 04:54 PM Good point. :yes

Agreed :yes
If I am taking pics I usually put him in the seat and fasten it and snap pics. Then tighten everything. He has to be tight in there and the one area needs to be high enough up etc. I am very anal about that as I have been in a major accident and then been rear ended shortly there after
Well, in my SIL's case, the pic was snapped in the car & it looks like it was moving b/c the scenery outside was blurred :neutral :no
Shep's Wife 01-30-2007, 04:56 PM I am very careful about how their seats are positioned and installed and that the straps are right. It is very important to me that they are safe.
luvmysailor81904 01-30-2007, 04:58 PM I am very anal about that kind of thing. I'm constantly having to remind DH to fix the straps after he puts ds in.
Victoria 01-30-2007, 05:01 PM I ALWAYS make sure Ethan's straps are tightened and that his chest clip is placed on his chest and not his belly. I also make sure that his carseat is positioned correctly w/ minimal movemet. My dad laughed at me a few months ago cuz I was crazily shaking/jerking Ethan's carseat to make sure there was very little movement.
Casey 01-30-2007, 05:03 PM i make sure they are tight and the base doesnt wiggle at all and if it does i take it out and do it aaaallll over again! you can say i'm anal about it lol. but ellie was sooo tiny and the carseat we had didnt go small enough to stay snug on her, so before we left the hospital we had her all padded in there and blankets everywhere to make the straps tighter (the docs did it and told us to do it until she grew into it, that or buy a new seat) so we did that until she was like 6-7 weeks old cuz she was just sooo tiny. we had to loosen it the first time a week or so ago!
MichelleB 01-30-2007, 07:53 PM No, you aren't the only one. I've always made sure the straps on Taylor's car seat are as tight as they need to be and everything is in place.

Yes that is VERY true!
piggypunkinetta 01-30-2007, 10:05 PM I yell at dh all the time abour not moving the buckle thing up, he will leave it around dylan's belly.
PrincessBlue505 01-31-2007, 07:07 AM I'm anal about it being right, and so is DH, thankfully. Seeing it really upsets me, even in pics.
If I know a person IRL who has it wrong, I'll say something. I could never forgive myself if something happened to that baby because I didn't say something. I try to do it nice though. If I'm there to see it, I ask if they've read their carseat manual and point out it's actually way too lose and the harness is in the wrong position. I'll say something like, "It should be something like this to keep them safe" while reaching over and correcting the issue. They usually have some excuse (I had one mom tell me she was afraid of it hurting her being too tight. I told her how I was afraid of that too but safety was more important and there were ways to check if it's tight enough without it being too tight). I may be stepping on toes but it's a serious safety issue. Just like I wouldn't let some kid stick their hand on a hot stove even though their parents are there if I get to the kid first. I don't know if I do it nice enough or what but no one has told me I was overstepping my boundries or gotten upset with me or anything. I have some who went right back to it being way too loose, but at least I tried....
