View Full Version : what is up with the military
Ashnbri 01-30-2007, 11:18 AM and them being obsessed with Classes? I have to take a class for the nutritionist rather than just go in and see her so now it is really hard to get an appt set up because she doesn't do them all the time..WTH? So because we have one car and I cant drive all the way to JAX we had to move it back and the only other class is on the 15th. Which we will be out of town so now I need to try to squeeze in this appt. I really dont like how the military does things. It drives me crazy....Anyways the baby keeps kicking me in the ribs already and it is driving me crazy..its like baby's new fav spot..it doesn't hurt yet it just isn't a nice feeling either...its in the in between phase.
*~*Cori*~* 01-30-2007, 01:47 PM I wasn't required to take alot when I was preggo in Jax.
I think I had to take the 1st one when I 1st got preggers. And I took the one in my 3rs trimester the L&D one that toured the hospital and all. But, I didn't take any other. No breastfeeding classes or nutrition or budgeting etc
I wasn't required to take any classes. There are classes that they recommend or suggest that you take. This time around they didn't even suggest any unless I want the youngest kids to take the sibling class :giggle
~Jess~ 01-30-2007, 02:18 PM I didn't have to take any classes either. I would call tricare or your OB and ask if they are mandatory. Good luck girl I'm having my baby at Memorial on University b/c militarty dr.s during pregnancy I don't like.
:hairout Yup, I am having to do TONS of stupid classes as well. Its rather annoying. I just went to the Nutritionist and I can say it was well worth it. I THOUGHT I knew alot about how to eat good and all that already, but damn, I was way wrong. :yes
They asked me if I wanted to take the new baby class or experienced parents. :banghead I know my son is almost 10, but you really do not forget how it is to be pregnant. No way in hell I wanted to be in the class with all the first time moms. :refuse
Ashnbri 01-31-2007, 02:40 PM Well I took the beginning pregnancy class to fill out the paper work and etc..and now I have to take a nutritionist class (which I thought would be one on one) since I have GD and am not gaining enough weight. I understand all the other classes, like natural child birth and breastfeeding..it just seems to me that the navy or military in general thinks it is easier and quicker to just make classes instead of one on one type things where you can get an appointment easier than having to try to fit in one that happens every once in a while.
Yeah, but since there are SOOOOOO many people its easier to do it in a class rather than one on one. Not to mention, I dont think ANY Dr or midwife stays past 4 pm M-Th, then Fridays, I dont think they are there past noon :lmao (obviously just joking) They dont put in the hours to keep up with EVERYONE though. Ya know :shrug
The nutrition class I just took was great. It was just dh and I and another woman. It wasnt a huge class. But then again, we are at Jax, not Mayport.
I was in the lab the other day doing the three hour test, and OMG the new mom class got out to do their labs.... :shock The lab waiting room was PACKED full and people had to stand in the hallway. There are so many pregnant people around here right now... its crazy.
NavyChiefs_Wife 01-31-2007, 02:55 PM I had Sydney at Keesler in Bioloxi and I never had to take any classes. All I had to do was tour the labor and delivery before I had her and then we had to take a class after she was born, but we only had to go one time.
Caimbrie 01-31-2007, 04:46 PM I've never had to go to a single class and I have 3 kids :lol I've never even had them suggested to me. Hell, I never even got to tour L&D.
SezzySue 02-01-2007, 12:08 AM at out hospital they did a mass appointment where the nutrion people came in to to talk to us.
MontanaSweetie 02-01-2007, 12:29 AM So, if you don't take the classes are you not allowed to have your baby?????
:teehee :wink
SezzySue 02-01-2007, 01:39 AM :giggle thats funny.
i took them because i wanted to but you don't have to take them
Victoria 02-01-2007, 03:51 AM I was never required to attend any classes either. I just went to them because I was a first time mommy and wanted all the advice I could get. :D
PS..if you can, attend the budgetting for baby class sponsored the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society. I loved all the free items I got, plus the cute-sy lil "baby's 1st seabag" tote. :)
Ashnbri 02-01-2007, 11:24 AM I guess I could still have the baby..but risk having a huge baby..which i would love to have no bigger than 8 lbs...lol and they dont have a nutritionist at mayport..she comes and visit's mayport sometimes so I have to go to jax to that appointment. When is everyone setting up there other classes if anyone is taking them? like the 3rd tri class or natural child birth?
