DF just got his orders. Right now he's in A school in Great Lakes for corpsman training, then he'll be going to North Carolina for 7 weeks for FMSS training. Then, he'll be stationed in Newport,RI. I'm from MA, so about 20 minutes from Providence,RI..so him being in Newport will be so close! Anyone know anything about Newport? Any information would help us a lot! Thanks!

I am a RI native and know lots about the area (I grew up 20 min from Newport- but in RI, everything is 20 min from everywhere else!)

OMG thats awesome! I would love to get orders to Newport! My husband's family is in Fall River (like 15/20 minutes away... depending on how fast you drive lol) and my family is just south of Boston... I miss MA...

Newport isnt a very active base... kinda quite... but the area is really nice... I love going to Newport.

My hubby will be there in May for several weeks for NSI.

I didnt even think there was a lot of people in RI. haha. But my husband just got his orders today adn we will be moving to Newport, RI the end of Dec around Christmas time. So any type of information on the area would be much appreciated. Stuff i really really wnt to know is where are good places to live, What are the colleges like out there, What areas should we stay away from. Stuff like that.
